I'd argue that one of the pandemic's few upsides has been the privilege of regular insights from thinkers like Prof. Pagel - very low-profile part of pre-2020 culture, regrettably.
A new type of public intellectual? Committed to justice & public good, & also rooted in science...
THREAD: I keep being asked when we can go "back to normal" or "like it was before". My personal thoughts:
We've added a new disease to our population, more infectious and more severe than flu.
The world pre 2020 no longer exists - we may want it to, but it just doesn't. 1/13
Hey @Twitter, this account has less than average interest in either Celtic or Newcastle United. Yet you persist in highlighting tweets about them to me - day after day after day...
How about taking your 'See less often' function a bit more seriously?! #ceaseanddesist
Not entirely sure the Grauniad *has* saved 'quite a bit of face' with its internal note at the bottom of a piece on arrangements for the monarch's death here...

Surely time to link up the growing #communitywealthbuilding movement & @AbundanceInv @_DrMarkDavis 'Community Municipal Investments'?!

Significant that, given even the faint proportionality of Supplementary Vote, WECA voters found a way to mobilise the west's anti-Tory majority through second prefs - despite no signal from the progressive parties...
@Labour4PR@MakeVotesMatter@UnlockDemocracy@electoralreform
One question on the WECA mayoral election: where did @Samuel4WECA's 13,000 second preference votes come from?
Hard to imagine many @bristoljerome voters viewing a Tory as their next best option. So the bulk must have been from @StephenRW01's turnout - perhaps the more elderly?
'not only are they splitting the anti-Tory vote in the 1st round, they are also splitting [it] in the 2nd round & it seems 3 opposition parties do not understand this'
Outstanding (if depressing) @MarriottNigel analysis of today's WECA Mayor election...

'By rights, [@Samuel4WECA] should not be winning but the 3 parties opposing do not seem to understand the subtleties of the Supplementary Vote (SV) used in this election & they will end up splitting their votes to their detriment...'

The Post Office Horizon story is a rare example of real investigative journalism – the kind that takes over a decade. One starting point: https://t.co/Ni1JhbxQ5S
Sort it out, UK councils! Grotesque that 75% have declared climate emergencies & yet still have a collective £9.9bn invested in fossil fuel stocks via LA pension funds...
& as for Strathclyde's £500m🤦♂️

Come on, @bathnes! Absurd to have declared a climate emergency back in 2019 (https://t.co/sMbEETdNlY) & yet still have over £100m invested in fossil fuel stocks two years later...
& no apparent plan to alter the Avon pension fund's holdings...
