I think India has completely misread the biggest economic shift of the last decade.
Unfortunately the Government of India has failed. Not marginally. Not partially. It has failed in a big way.
For years we have been told that India is the fastest-growing large economy in the world. That our demographics are unmatched. That our consumption story is intact. That global investors cannot ignore us.
Yet look at what has actually happened.
Over the last 4–5 years the world witnessed one of the biggest reallocations of capital in modern history.
Trillions of dollars moved.
The US attracted capital into AI. Taiwan became the semiconductor capital of the world. South Korea became a key beneficiary of the memory and AI boom. Vietnam emerged as a manufacturing destination. Singapore strengthened its position as Asia's capital hub. UAE became a magnet for global entrepreneurs and family offices.
And India?
India largely watched from the sidelines while continuing to sell the same consumption story.
The numbers tell the story.
Net FDI inflows into India have fallen sharply from their peak years.
Private equity activity has slowed materially.
Venture capital funding is a fraction of what it was during the 2021 cycle.
Foreign investors have been net sellers for prolonged periods.
And despite all this there seems to be very little introspection within the system..
Instead every explanation sounds familiar.
"It's a global issue."
"It's temporary."
"It's an AI bubble."
"It's because of interest rates."
At some point we need to stop explaining away reality.
Capital does not care about narratives.
Capital follows opportunity.
And we failed to create enough of it.
China built manufacturing ecosystems that are still decades ahead of us. America built the world's most powerful innovation engine. Taiwan built the semiconductor backbone of the digital economy.
India built compliance.
Ask any foreign investor.
They worry about:
* tax uncertainty
* regulatory complexity
* currency depreciation
* capital movement restrictions
* compliance burden
* endless approvals
These are not ideological issues. These are execution failures.
What makes this even more worrying is that India continues to depend heavily on a consumption-led growth model.
But where does that consumption come from?
A large part comes from:
* salaried professionals
* IT employees
* financial services
* real estate-linked employment
* urban middle class spending
Now look at what AI is doing.
Whether people like it or not this is no longer a passing theme.
It is already reshaping hiring.
It is already reshaping productivity.
It is already changing how businesses think about incremental headcount.
If India misses this wave as well then the consequences will not be limited to the IT sector.
The ripple effects could hit:
* housing demand
* automobiles
* travel
* entertainment
* premium consumption
* retail spending
The second-order impact may be larger than the first-order impact.
And yet where is the urgency?
Where is the national AI mission at scale?
Where are the world-class research incentives?
Where are the regulatory reforms to attract global capital?
Where is the accountability from bureaucrats who have repeatedly missed these shifts?
The most dangerous assumption being made today is that demographics will save India.
Demographics are not an advantage by default.
They are only an advantage if jobs are created faster than aspirations.
Otherwise demographics become pressure.
And pressure eventually becomes unrest.
The world is moving faster than at any point in modern history.
The uncomfortable truth is that India is not competing against its own past anymore.
India is competing against countries that are moving with far greater speed and urgency.
The next 3 years will decide whether India becomes a genuine economic superpower or remains a country endlessly talking about its potential.
Potential does not attract capital. Execution does.
India's Biggest Economic Challenge Is not Inflation, Oil, or War - It is an Unskilled Population Addicted to Distraction.
Every time oil prices rise, economists panic. Every time a war breaks out in the Middle East or Europe, television studios declare that India's economy is under threat. And yes, both matter. But neither represents India's greatest economic challenge. The real crisis is unfolding much closer to home.
It is a generation that spends more time consuming content than creating value. A workforce that debates geopolitics without mastering spreadsheets, artificial intelligence, coding, welding, precision manufacturing, sales, finance, communication, or even basic problem-solving. An economy where attention has become the most wasted national resource.
India is one of the youngest countries in the world. That should have been our greatest competitive advantage. Instead, we risk turning our demographic dividend into a demographic liability.
The Age of Endless Consumption
Never before has information been so accessible. Yet never before have so many people spent so much time learning so little. Hours disappear into political debates, celebrity gossip, cricket controversies, influencer reels, conspiracy theories, and outrage cycles that have absolutely no impact on an individual's earning potential. Ask someone how many hours they spent on social media last week. Then ask them how many hours they invested in acquiring a new professional skill. For many, the answer is uncomfortable. We have become experts at commenting on the economy while contributing very little to it.
Degrees Are Not Skills
India has no shortage of graduates. It has a shortage of employable graduates. Companies repeatedly report the same problem: vacancies exist, but suitable candidates are difficult to find. Not because people lack certificates. Because many lack practical skills. The world is rewarding competence, not credentials.
- Can you solve problems?
= Can you communicate effectively?
- Can you sell?
= Can you lead a team?
- Can you analyze data?
- Can you use AI to improve productivity instead of merely asking it amusing questions?
- Can you create something that another person is willing to pay for?
Those are the questions that determine economic success. Not the number of degrees hanging on a wall.
Attention Is the New Currency
The biggest theft today is not of money. It is of attention. Every notification fragments concentration. Every endless scroll delays mastery. Every hour spent consuming outrage is an hour not spent building expertise.
Modern economies reward deep work, specialized knowledge, creativity, and disciplined execution. Algorithms reward emotional reactions. Unfortunately, millions choose the algorithm.
The Coming Divide
Artificial intelligence is not replacing everyone. It is replacing people who refuse to learn. The future will belong to workers who continuously upgrade themselves. Those who combine human judgment with technological tools will become dramatically more productive. Those who stop learning will find themselves competing for fewer opportunities at lower wages. The divide will not be between rich and poor. It will increasingly be between skilled and unskilled.
National Growth Begins With Individual Discipline
Governments can build highways. Businesses can build factories. Universities can build campuses. But none of them can force an individual to develop skills. Economic transformation begins with personal responsibility. Spend one less hour arguing online. Spend one more hour learning. Read instead of scrolling. Build instead of complaining. Acquire one valuable skill every year. Become indispensable.
If millions of Indians made that simple choice, the country's economic trajectory would change more profoundly than any fiscal stimulus, any election promise, or any temporary fall in oil prices.
Wars will end. Oil prices will rise and fall. Markets will recover. But a nation that neglects skill development while surrendering its attention to endless distraction will struggle long after those headlines have disappeared.
The strongest economy is not built by the loudest voices. It is built by the most capable people.

The smartest man in AI just exposed the whole AGI narrative as a LIE.
And he used a physics problem from 1905 to prove it.
His name is Demis Hassabis. He runs Google DeepMind, and won the Nobel Prize for using AI to crack a problem in biology that had stumped scientists for 50 years.
Almost nobody in this industry has a track record like his.
He went on the NothingButTech podcast and called out the biggest lie in AI right now:
Right now the loudest voices in AI are telling you that AGI is basically here. OpenAI has literally defined AGI as a system that can outperform humans at most "economically valuable work." In other words, if it replaces enough jobs, we have arrived.
Hassabis thinks that bar is a joke.
He said real general intelligence has to do what the human brain can do, because the brain is the only proof we have that this kind of intelligence is even possible. He called that "a higher bar than just being able to do some useful economic work," which is about as close as a polite British Nobel laureate gets to calling his rivals out.
Then he gave the actual test:
Today's AI has read everything humans have ever written, including the theory of relativity. So when it explains relativity back to you, it's repeating an answer that already exists.
That's not intelligence.
So Hassabis proposed a test that makes memorization impossible. Train an AI on only what humanity knew in 1901, four years BEFORE Einstein published relativity. Then ask it to come up with relativity on its own.
It can't look up the answer, because in 1901 the answer doesn't exist yet. The only way to pass is to do what Einstein actually did: Take the same physics everyone else had and reason its way to an idea no human had ever had.
Hassabis says not a single AI today can, no matter how much it has memorized. Which means what we keep calling "almost AGI" is really just the best librarian in history.
It can find any answer that already exists but it cannot create one that doesn't.
His second version is even sharper:
AlphaGo, the system his own team built, famously invented a brand new move that no human had played in 2,000 years of the game.
Everyone called it genius but Hassabis says that still is not the bar.
The real test is not whether an AI can invent a new move inside Go, it is whether an AI could INVENT a game as deep and as beautiful as Go in the first place.
No model that exists today can do it.
The people telling you AGI has already arrived are the same people raising hundreds of billions of dollars on that exact promise.
The valuations only work if the finish line is right in front of us. So the finish line keeps getting dragged closer, and AGI keeps getting quietly redefined down to "does useful work," until the products they already sell happen to qualify.
Hassabis has nothing to prove and nothing to sell you. He already won the Nobel, and he is telling you the machines still cannot do the one thing that would make them genuinely intelligent, which is have a truly original idea.
To be fair to him, he is not a pessimist about it. He believes real AGI IS coming, and he is spending his life building it. He just refuses to pretend it is already sitting in your phone.
So the next time a founder tells you AGI is months away, remember that the one man in the room with a Nobel Prize built his test around Einstein, and admitted that nothing we have made can pass it.

The connection b/w the South Indian Murukku (that crunchy, coiled, savory snack we all love) & the ancient medical treatise of the Sushruta Samhita is 1 of the most brilliant, hidden examples of how ancient Indian snack food was originally engineered as preventative medicine.
When people think of the Sushruta Samhita, they immediately think of plastic surgery, rhinoplasty & complex surgical tools. But Sushruta was a holistic genius. He knew that the ultimate goal of medicine was to ensure a patient never needed surgery in the 1st place.
Volume 1 (Sutra Sthana, Chapter 46) contains an entire, massive section dedicated to Ahara-tattva (the nutritional science of food). And this is where the fascinating origin story of the Murukku begins.
In the Sushruta Samhita, Sushruta categorizes deep-fried pastry items under the broad family of Bhakshyas (cooked, chewable foods). Among them, he singles out a distinct item called Śaṣkulī. Over centuries, as the Sanskrit word Śaṣkulī traveled across different regions of India, it underwent phonetic shifts: In the North & West, the word evolved through Prakrit into Chakli (retaining the circular, coiled meaning).
In the South cultures translated the physical action of making it, twisting the dough giving us the beautiful descriptive name Murukku (which literally means twisted in Tamil).
Sushruta was deeply concerned with the concept of Agni (metabolic digestive fire). He categorized foods based on whether they were Guru (heavy to digest)/Laghu (light to digest). He noted that deep-frying grain dough in ghee makes it highly caloric & strength-giving (Bala-vardhana), but it can be incredibly heavy for the stomach.
To fix this chemical problem, ancient Indian cooks did something brilliant that Sushruta documented: they introduced Masha (Black Gram/Urad Dal) into the rice flour matrix. By mixing rice flour with roasted, ground urad dal, they created a complete amino acid profile (rice is low in lysine but high in methionine, while dal is high in lysine but low in methionine).
A few might think why did Sushruta spend time documenting a fried, coiled snack in a medical text meant for surgeons? Because of shelf-life & thermodynamics.
In ancient India, monks, traders & soldiers traveling across vast empires needed food that met 3 strict scientific conditions:
- It could not contain moisture (water causes bacterial spoilage).
- It had to be compact & physically rigid so it would not crumble into dust in a horse carriage.
- It had to be nutrient-dense to sustain high physical exertion.
By taking the Śaṣkulī dough, piping it into tight, concentric, interlocking coils (which structurally reinforces the snack against breaking) & deep-frying it until 100% of the water content evaporated, ancient Indians invented the ultimate preservative-free, shelf-stable survival ration.
When you hear the crunch of a Murukku today, you are literally tasting a recipe that was vetted, chemically balanced & medically approved by the Father of Surgery himself, Acharya Sushruta, 1000s yrs ago.
So, the next time you serve Murukku/Chakli with tea, you can proudly tell your guests: You are not just eating a snack. You are consuming a highly engineered, ancient Ayurvedic military ration designed to preserve human tissue :))

2- At the end of the day, you (the developer) are responsible for the code, not the LLM that generated it. So the less code you have, the easier it is for you to own it.
3- A good engineer knows what code to write, and equally importantly, what code not to write or to delete.

What’s being uncovered here won’t just rewrite Indian history. It could rewrite human history and prove Ancient India had tools far more advanced than we’ve been told.
But first, you have to understand what you’re looking at. Kailasa wasn’t built. It was removed from the side of a mountain. That means there was no room for mistakes while carving one of the hardest rocks on Earth. Between 200,000 and 400,000 tons of basalt were removed to create it. The first mystery is simple: we don’t know where it all went. We also don’t truly know when it was built. The main dating sources are two land grants, but that doesn’t tell us when the actual carving began. Dating matters because it would tell us what tools they had. Ancient India had steel by 600 BC, which later became the famous Damascus steel. But basalt is hardened lava. It’s around a 6 on the Mohs scale, meaning steel barely scratches it. In 1682, a Mughal emperor ordered 1,000 workers to destroy Kailasa. They failed. That alone shows how hard this stone is. Even with modern alloys, humans barely make a dent. Russian researchers tested this by having people strike basalt with modern tools, then measuring the removed volume with photogrammetry. The result? One person working every day for 3 years could remove only about 1 cubic meter. And since Kailasa is unfinished, we still have tool marks. Those marks show cuts deeper than what modern hydraulic breakers can achieve. To penetrate basalt that deeply, we’d normally need huge machinery. But machines that size wouldn’t fit in many of these spaces. So clearly, they had different tools. Not just powerful tools. Precision tools. The detail in Kailasa’s carvings looks like work done in soft soapstone, except it’s carved into basalt. What we know for sure is that our assumptions about ancient India are wrong. At minimum, they were far more advanced than we give them credit for. At most, something was happening back then that we still don’t fully comprehend.
