Now it is finally out: our first research paper on mechano-catalytic conversion of #plastic for #chemicalrecycling . We catalytically functionalize the surface of the grinding spheres to boost conversion. #mechanochemistry
📢 We're looking for a postdoc to further develop and validate a novel optical method for plastic sorting for recycling.
🙏 Sharing much appreciated
📅 Apply by Aug 19 via the KU Leuven portal: https://t.co/sBbqhoeAbJ

New data released by the U.S. National Science Foundation underscore concerns that the academic community is facing a postdoc shortage and that early-career scientists are increasingly favoring higher paid positions outside academia. @ScienceCareers https://t.co/Xu9t7BN0f9
Europe’s plastics recyclers are under financial pressure, and some are closing plants. Industry experts cite a surge in cheap virgin plastic being imported into the region and a lack of regulation requiring the use of recycled material. https://t.co/oZL8ZoDvPu

@zhigangsuo@wangzhian8848 Hi professor suo, this may make your academic twitter another battleground of Chinese politics. Crazy comments would show up. Be well!
🥳 "PROJECT OF THE CENTURY" 🥳
Congratulations to our Max Planck Fellow Regina Palkovits (@PalkovitsLab) and her colleague Jürgen Klankermayer on this great award. What a fantastic project that has been deservedly honored. Have fun celebrating @RWTH ! 🍾
Some depressing quotes from high-flying academics highlighted in this book review by @DrEOChapman, e.g.:
“Women just have to accept that it’s a male thing they have to conquer…women don’t want to be seen as fighters; it doesn’t come naturally to them.”

@Up_WZH@MechSustInd@Mechanochem@NatureComms Thanks! It could be dangerous… but the hydrogen has showed up in the milling jars quite often in our lab even to hundreds bar😂. No danger occurs till now. Pure hydrogen and no leakage can ensure the safety.
Happy to share our recent work on polymer depolymerization by Mechanocatalysis.

Lanxess, German specialty chemicals group has some words for the German government>>
"De-industrialization begins"
The specialty chemicals group Lanxess plans to close two production plants at its Krefeld-Uerdingen location in view of the high electricity price and the economic environment. The Hexan oxidation is extremely energy-intensive and should be shut down by 2026, the Cologne M-Dax group announced on Friday. „ We have been burning money here for some time and we do not expect that to change “, said Lanxess CEO Matthias Zachert in a conference call.
Lanxess had to shut down the plants in order to remain competitive. Zachert blamed politics for this. German industry has enormous location disadvantages in Germany due to the high energy costs. This is how companies migrated. „ De-industrialization begins “, said Zachert. In addition to the high costs, companies suffered from excessive bureaucracy. „ This seriously jeopardizes German prosperity and social security for people in the medium and long term. “ The federal government had to wake up, said Zachert. „ We need an economic policy that deserves this name. “

A common confusion is that to decarbonise, the world will need to produce the equivalent of coal, oil & gas in the form of low-carbon energy.
That's not true.
Most fossil energy gets wasted. In the US, just one-third gets turned into useful services. The rest is wasted as heat.
