PrePrint Alert: RIBAP
Back in 2018, @martinhoelzer and @lisa_barf were puzzled by a #Chlamydia core genome of only 9 genes. Turns out, most #pangenomics tools are challenged by input genomes from different species (but the same genus).

RIBAP combines sequence homology info from Roary (kudos to the devs!) w/ clever pairwise ILP calcs (kudos to @klamkiewicz!) to produce a more complete microbial core gene set - even on genus level.

I'm updating the "What's in a Flipper Dipper" practical this year. Bye bye old fashioned DNA barcoding, hello real-time DNA sequencing! My first time using the @nanopore Flongle flowcells, so fingers crossed for some good data.

Is there a resource to easily translate between SARS-CoV-2 amino acid and genomic pos? Most often aa pos is reported (e.g. S:N501Y) but sometimes genomic nt pos is needed (e.g. in that case A23063T).
Or does everyone just have an own Wuhan NC_045512.2 GTF/FASTA query script? :)
Did you spot MinION in @Netflix's new show Alien Worlds? MinION is used to detect the extremophiles that live within the Danakil Depression in Ethiopia — an environment previously thought to be too extreme to support life.
