Last year I release Mosaiq app for iPad. Not many people downloaded it. I felt I made something no one wanted.
Recently I observed some surge in downloads and its rank improved from 10th to 2nd on AppStore search “Mosaiq”.
Happy to see it’s useful to some people 🙂
you didnt build shit in 4 days
you yoinked a gpl-v3 code, slapped an apache license on it, and called it a startup
here’s a quick 101 on how not to steal open source
@garrytan@ycombinator is this what you invest in? yuck
I would like to share what I have been building for the last two months.
I am building a system wherein I bring interns/contractors onboard with just 2 behavioural interviews, bring them to Bangalore, pay them basic living expenses for Bangalore standards plus some buffer money, and mentor them into building products. So far we have been building "Elite Aide", a personal assistant that is supposed to be out on play store very soon.
I had many goals when starting this project, but one of the biggest ones was setting up a role-model for how an organisation is supposed to be. I have had the privilege to work at Google Bangalore in 2019 when they had hardly 300-400 employees. It was a utopia in a true sense of the word, above market money and perks, which people would revel in, for a few months, and then feel psychologically safe enough to focus on work and work alone. No fear of getting fired, or not getting enough money for their basic expenses!
Things have changed a lot in last 5 years, the economy is much worse, and people are scared of hiring people because of short term cash crunch. What companies are trying to build are software products, but they can do much more: build humans as a product. That was what was done to me in the first 3-4 years of my career.
Take care of your people, and the people take care of your business. I am not the first one to say it, enough Western influencers say it already, but we in India do not listen. We like to be tensed all the time, and project that tension onto others as well, especially on the people we think we control. Our reportees. We consider them our servants, or our slaves, IDK.
I have been building a proof-of-concept, with 4 interns so far, of the utopian culture I saw at Google Bangalore back in the day. What I realised is that it does not take that much effort: economy is bad so people's expectations are so low, that they are happy to just get what I would willingly want any SWE living in Bangalore to earn. And just leave them alone to work: no deadlines, no tension, no nothing. Just guide and mentor them. They will develop good products that can sell, I trust them!
So far, it has been working well. "Elite Aide" is coming soon, but it is not the product. The people we are bringing, mentoring and graduating eventually are the products.
I talked to VCs, they did not get it. I put in 6 lakhs of my own money then, and publicly committed to 30 lakhs more. Now some of them want to talk to me, some talk and still do not understand.
I hope you all understand.
We are "Project dark horse": dark horse means the horse that no one bets on in a race, but when he is successful, the returns are huge. Are my interns the dark horse who were not being treated well by their previous employers, or am I the dark horse not being trusted by VCs?
You all decide.
In May 2021, five of Bharti’s family members went missing overnight in their village in Madhya Pradesh.
She filed a missing complaint. 49 days later the police brought tragic news. All of Bharti's family members were murdered.
This story shows why tribals in MP live in fear🧵
Do you know #Vultures are obligatory scavengers, so they never hunt. They feed on the dead bodies only. Also they can digest anything from diseased to old bodies, very efficient scavengers. Means clean environment very efficiently. Today is international vultures awareness day.
That is why called as #ecosystem doctors.
