What a week in Trenton, and in Newark. 🧵
Samsung left. ExxonMobil left. 522,000 residents gone this decade. $31B in income - gone.
Democrats' response? Make the hazelnut New Jersey's official nut. (Grown in Oregon, btw.)
Here's everything that happened this week 👇
1/ Fortune 500s in NJ: 22 in 2018 → 15 today. @JohnAzzaritiNJ is raising alarms. @CPDePhillips introduced the fixes. Democrats blocked every one. Texas celebrates. NJ keeps the ribbon-cutting photos.
2/ At the Climate Superfund hearing, @RaviBhalla was asked about the jobs lost when Chevron, Hess, Valero & Sunoco left NJ. His answer: "We don't want those jobs." Thousands of NJ families depended on those paychecks.
3/ The Climate Superfund Act would hit gas companies with $50B in new costs. Supporters say consumers won't feel it. @MikeInganamort asked the obvious question. Nobody had a real answer.
4/ NJ property taxes: #1 in America. 2.42% effective rate. A $400K home = $9,680/year. Same home in Hawaii = $840/year. And Trenton is negotiating a record $60.7B budget right now.
5/ NJ Transit charged 8x the normal fare for World Cup games — then suspended regular commuter service on match days. Can't run trains on a Tuesday. Can charge $98 for an 18-mile trip.
6/ Delaney Hall: the unrest continued this weekend. Gov. Sherrill spent the week inserting herself into the situation, calling it "peaceful protest" even after a protester was federally charged for allegedly threatening to murder an ICE officer, his wife, and his children. That's not protest. That's a crime. And if Trenton thought @DawnFantasia_NJ was going to let them sweep this under the rug, they haven't been paying attention.
7/ Meanwhile, NJ families fighting property taxes, utility bills, and skyrocketing rent got silence from the @GovSherrillNJ. She'll fight for detainees. We're fighting for you!
That's Trenton in 2026. We'll keep fighting.
@wakeupnj@NJ_Votes I voted there Sunday. They asked my name, address and DOB. They had me sign the iPad and a paper with my official signature. The line was very long. My criticism is they only had 6 voting machines. It took an hour to get through the line. They needed twice the number.
🆘🐾🆘 Trying to post the pic with info didn't work so well. Adorable CAROL deserves to be seen right away. 3 yo, 11 lbs, has that ragamuffin vibe going on. She's been at Downey CA ACC since 9-13. Info ⬇ #A5726433
As Gavin Newsom takes a taxpayer funded vacation at Climate Week in New York City, the environmental catastrophe that is the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility in California is shutting down.
The 2 BILLION dollar blight built on 3,500 pristine acres of Mojave desert has been responsible for incinerating more than 60,000 birds, created TWICE the pollution of a typical power plant, created 86 jobs instead of the promised 2000, and will abandon 173,500 thermal collectors in the environment they were trying to save.

In response to business owners expressing concerns that increasing the minimum wage to $25/HR will force them to automate certain positions, a SD City Councilmember responded, “do not dare…I will have a policy for that too.”
The city then voted to exempt themselves from the $25/HR minimum wage.
This weekend was magical. On Saturday, and carrying through yesterday we celebrated forever homes for over 80 of the animals in our care.
But, today, our focus returns to those who still wait. To those who weren't chosen.
Our hearts break for them, waking up again in a shelter. We love them until their families come, but sometimes it feels like they will never come.
Lemon in particular has had a rough road. He was rescued from the streets of Philadelphia with a horrific injury, leaving him a tripod. He overcame that injury and found a home.
Sadly, he ended up back in the shelter where he again waits.
He deserves the world. Please consider coming to meet him or any of the pups who weren't chosen. You can change their lives, and we know for sure they'll change yours.

Starting in October, SDG&E will hit every customer with a new $24 monthly “Base Services Charge” — that’s an extra $288 a year, no matter how much or how little power you use.
This so-called “reshuffling” is nothing more than a utility tax. It punishes seniors on fixed incomes, working families, and even those who invested in solar to cut costs — all while SDG&E made nearly $900 million in profits last year.
Californians already pay the second-highest energy rates in the nation. Enough is enough.
Here is what the actual streets of San Diego look like. Big thanks to @johncocozza for coming along and helping with the photography and videography... John is one of the best in San Diego for photos and video needed. Thanks to @adamcarolla for shedding some light. A thread 🧵

Email from the Asst. Fire Chief sent to every @SDFD firefighter today: As fire season begins, City of San Diego’s $257M deficit hits hard—Engine 80 shut down, second full-time copter crew cut during peak season. The city chose bike lanes over public safety. It’s LA all over again
