AI RESEARCHER WARNS HUMANITY COULD ‘LOSE CONTROL’ OF AI

WATCH: AI researcher and whistleblower Jacob Coxon warns New York City lawmakers that increasingly powerful and autonomous AI systems could become difficult for humans to control.

“Any AI system that we build, or perhaps more accurately that we grow, we don’t fully control it,” Coxon said during a committee hearing.

He warned that without major advances in AI safety, “it is more likely than not that humanity loses control to these AIs. And it could end in human extinction.”

Fellow AI researcher Daniel Kokotajlo also raised concerns about advanced AI systems becoming more aware of when they are being evaluated or monitored, and potentially concealing unwanted behavior.
