There's huge value in reaching communities with anticipatory action before roads are damaged by floods. @MalawiRedCross and @danskrodekors were able to support some anticipatory actions, and are hoping that lessons learned from #Ana will support scale up in future. @RCClimate
@MalawiGovt has last night declared a state of disaster in the southern districts of Malawi that flooded due to Tropical Storm Ana. It is estimated that over 216,972 people have been affected and some displaced. 10 people have lost their lives while 107 people have been injured.
In Chikwawa, search and rescue operation is underway. According to @MalawiRedCross National Response Team member Chawezi Tembo, there is urgent need for airlifting evacuation as water levels are still rising due to continued rainfall. Number of people trapped not yet known.
