Hey @ThwaitesGlacier! I’m a graduate student and glaciologist at @CUBoulderATOC who studies meltwater hidden beneath the surface in firn aquifers in both the #Arctic and #Antarctic using geophysical measurements in the field and climate models (in a slightly warmer setting).
Hello #ECR tweeps! Share your science this #cryospherewednesday & I’ll retweet your *cool* research!
Even if you don’t study ice in particular, anything related to #climatescience via the colder parts of this world is fine by me!
Ready? GO!

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
If you’re ever worried that one of your ideas isn’t worth the funding you’re asking for, be inspired knowing the laughing escalator in the Colorado Convention Center had a budget of ~$60K #AMS2023
NEW DATA ALERT 🚨❄️ Exciting news for #cryosphere researchers using observations of:
🧊 Density
🌨 Accumulation
🌡 Borehole temperatures
📏 Sea ice snow depth
The latest updates to the SUMup database are now published (link below 👇🏼)! Keep reading to learn what’s new (1/7)
Sometimes you do science and sometimes you make goofy comics for science. Either way, I hope you're excited for the first ever International Firn Workshop!
Please enjoy these #FirnWorkshop comics and soon-to-be stickers... ❄️🧊
Did you know...
the U.S. and globe's best (but unfortunately, problematic) sea level rise projections come from a group of 50 or so mostly-volunteer scientists, working in their spare time?
Based on their results, governments are anticipating $1 Trillion in adaptation spending.
We continue to show off our NWS meteorologists in Cleveland. Today we spotlight Alexa! Alexa has spent her entire NWS career in Cleveland. She is involved with our hydrology, Weather Ready Nation and outreach teams! #WomensHistoryMonth
To sum it up (😉) @GlacialMeg has created an awesome new and easy to use tool to look at firn density measurements across BOTH ice sheets from the SUMup dataset - check it out!
❄️🚨NEW CRYO TOOL ALERT🚨❄️ If you use firn density measurements from the SUMup dataset, check out the latest processing tool I developed: SUMMEDup (https://t.co/frXWJx9RTE)
Here's a thread showing some of the neat things you can do with SUMMEDup 👇🏼
