“There can be no purpose more enspiriting than to begin the age of restoration, reweaving wondrous diversity of life that still surrounds us.” - Edward O Wilson
Between 2000 - 2024 Maldives reclaimed over 4000 hectares of reef and coastline; more than all of Africa and Europe combined in the same period. No coherent national plan. The destruction was not accidental. It was structural — built into governance itself. #VesheegeDhifaauga
For the first time since 2008, journalists are behind bars. Tried in secret, denied lawyers, punished for doing their job.
This is not rule of law. This is silencing.

A gag order that fails the constitutional test. A qazf charge that doesn't fit. An investigation that didn't ask the questions it was obliged to ask. And two journalists in prison anyway.

Talks have resurfaced that the Environment Ministry is once again LEGITIMIZING ECOCIDE by trying to shrink the boundary of Addu Nature Park - Eedhigali Kilhi and Koattey Protected Area to reclaim more of the Fishimathi Mangrove and Wetland Area.
Newly appointed Environment Minister, and former Special Envoy for Climate Change @aleeshareef, must understand that the protection of Addu Nature Park is non-negotiable for the youth and people of Addu City.
There has already been significant damage and destruction to Fishimathi, with NO PLAN in sight.
Addu doesn’t need more BARREN LAND, by destroying our most precious natural resource.
It is the duty and obligation of @AdduCityCouncil to defend our natural heritage by all means.
The government must listen to the elected representatives before making decisions that will have major implications on the islands they represent.
Our environment is more important than the ambitions of failed politicians.
Help us spread the message

We have seen no evidence of systemic abuse of the RTI Act by requestors. Vexatious requests may exist in isolated instances - but they are not a trend. Mute refusals (where public authorities simply do not respond to RTI requests) are far more prevalent than vexatious requests.
Congratulations and welcome to our new Chief Commissioner, Ismail Rifau.
Under your leadership, we look forward to continued growth, success, and new heights for Maldivian Scouting.
Wishing you the very best in your journey ahead.

Opposition MDP has secured a clean sweep of Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Presidencies in all 5 major cities:
Malé: Aishath Reesha
Addu: Fathimath Hijra
Kulhudhuffushi: Aminath Ibrahim
Fuvahmulah: Mariyam Shiuna
Thinadhoo: Mariyam Sharoona Adil
Preliminary results signal a major setback for the ruling PNC in urban hubs, with MDP also projected to hold Mayoral seats and council majorities.
Congratulations to all those who won seats in the #LCE2026 and WDC elections.
Be compassionate, be responsible and be accountable to your constituents.
Remember you have been entrusted to lead by your people, always consult them always listen to them.
For the Maldives, a just energy transition is not just environmental or economic; it’s a matter of national development and security. Continued reliance on imported fossil fuels leaves us exposed and vulnerable. A shift to renewables is no longer optional! it’s imperative!!
Comprehensiveness is not the opposite of focus.
If you are a social sector leader still treating this as an either/or question, you're solving the wrong problem and forcing your organization into a false and paralysing choice. https://t.co/NPYf4vqIBO
While we face a potential economic crisis with staggering debt, must we continue this business usual culture of irresponsible politically driven mass spending projects?
Can we become more logical in our approach?

This article refers to the proposal that I made in the Special Majlis regarding the order of elections in the Maldives. In the interest of democracy, holding presidential and parliamentary elections on different dates would give the people a better and more independent choice.

@shainyoosuf@hirigazahir@naaif@IndependentMV Personally I would want more opportunities for people to come out n participate in voting.
But, I agree with some commentators that it might make more sense for parliamentary elections to take place closer to the middle of a presidential term, functioning more like a mid-term.
@maeed@hirigazahir@naaif@IndependentMV since the president instigated this motion, based on reasons such as to “cut costs”,
wouldn’t a responsible opposition then have to respond with reasonable explanations on why they oppose?
all opposing reasons so far appear to be blatant lies
Ex-MP of Kendhoo Dhaairaa @AleeVoice breaks down how the proposed change seriously compromises the separation of powers that is foundational to our constitution, and the ability of our parliament to hold the administration accountable. He discredits the administration's claims that combining elections will promote development, instead pointing out that the government's aim is to insulate themselves from public accountability for the entirety of their 5 year term.

Built 98 years ago by Bohra merchants, the Bandaara Mosque is a rare survivor of Malé’s history. The Association of Maldivian Planners strongly objects to its destruction. We must safeguard our heritage and this vital link to our identity before it is lost.
