Hello new followers! Quick intro: elder millennial woman with Aspergers/ADHD. I like to talk about the nosology of autism, try to follow the emerging science, and upset everyone because I can't be reduced to a specific kind of guy. Heterodox as an orientation, not as a shibboleth
@Total_threshold@35yearoldfriend I said started in 2008, a lot of 2008 was killer but looking back you could see the vibe shift starting to gain speed. Fleet Foxes was p4k's album of the year. "Indie" was starting to coalesce into an aspirational "genre" for suburban middle class college kids
@ChristianityOn Sometime I need to tell you about how my favorite game at grandma's was deadheading her white, pink, and purple african violets and then making those dried flower stems into princesses and servants of the royal court from different families vying for influence lol
@Jumpjumpoline@35yearoldfriend ...did you actually write the Radio Dept. incorrectly or is there a second band called Radio Department I need to check out
@chrisdeville Your median 2000s Fonal records guy and the guy who thinks the only good AnCo record was Sung Tongs (they are usually the same guy) thought Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver were boring music for suburban normies.
@Josherick3 QC was truly ahead of its time. It gave every love interest a mental illness that was their whole identity before people were listing all their acronyms in their bios. (that's where I quit reading)
@offbeatorbit The Rapture get a free pass forever because House of Jealous Lovers is a generational banger that closed every house party I went to my freshman and sophomore year of college.
@chrisdeville Jens was 100% right. I think a lot of people missed, despite them getting some coverage in Pitchfork, how much of the "indie pop" that blew up around 2008-2009 is directly downstream of the mid aughts Swedish indiepop scene. Vampire Weekend being the most obvious example.
@liquidprismata@heyevs The image is an actual question from the Big Kink Survey and is completely indefensible from a safeguarding and data integrity perspective. If you're going to do this, you need to do it right. Pop the img into your favorite AI for an explaination of why you do not do this. Ever.
@liquidprismata@heyevs But she could actually learn best practices on question design, or even ask Claude about it when she's writing her surveys. I cannot overstate how reckless and poorly designed her questions are. Garbage in, garbage out.
@TheMongo@offbeatorbit You're missing the whole gbg scene - Jens Lekman, Tough Alliance, Air France, Radio Dept - centered around Labrador, Service, and Sincerely Yours. Had some coverage in p4k, though the broader electropop scene didn't really get much coverage (besides that one Lo-Fi-Fnk remix)
@clernck I also worked in marketing, doing qual research (aka the people giving you dossiers/reports that you ignored except to pull quotes from), and the brand muses we delivered were based on real people in the target metros that we paid to let us follow them around for a day.
@_garrettcharles@offbeatorbit Yes, but not that guy. There was a whole subculture/style around the musical genre Twee starting in the UK in the 80s. Tullycraft - Twee came out in 02. Twee was, for the guys grandpa sweaters, and for the girls, 60s vintage dresses, all from the thrift store.
@TheMongo@offbeatorbit Me and Giuliani Down By the School Yard (A True Story) is still an all time banger. People also memory holed the Swedish indie pop/twee invasion except for that one Peter Björn and John song.
@offbeatorbit If you did not salivate over the AA F497 zip hoodie and/or Cheap Monday Tight/APC Petit Standard skinnies, I do not want to hear your opinions on how to define "hipster" (even if all of us would have denied it while checking Hipster Runoff every day)
@thintechgodhead That's what peer support is supposed to be! I'm glad you have that, I wish more people did because the bad spaces for a lot of conditions are really really bad, and it's not exclusive to edtwt 💔
@goshacmd2@fairymelodia I'm happy on Vyvanse, it is a massive improvement on all the others I was forced to try first (including the non stims...), but I've always wondered if desoxyn would make me feel less "wired"/jaw clenchy...
