The Sudanese Canadian Community Association (SCCA), with the support of the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), spent the past two days—Monday in Ottawa and Tuesday in virtual meetings—advocating for meaningful, urgent action on Sudan.
Our delegation met with officials across party lines to highlight the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis and the deep impact the conflict continues to have on Sudanese Canadians and their families.
Special thanks to the MPs and officials who met with us: @KayabagaArielle , @Rob_Oliphant , @coteau , @SalmaZahid15 , @iamIqraKhalid , @SameerZuberi, @ElizabethMay, @RunChiNguyenRun, @ScottReidCPC, @JennyKwanBC, @garnettgenius, @AmiraElghawaby, @taleeb and @kbardeesy — your time, leadership, and commitment are truly appreciated.
Our key asks:
1️⃣ Increased funding to trusted humanitarian partners on the ground in Sudan to address the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.
2️⃣ Re-prioritization of Sudanese refugee and family reunification pathways, addressing devastating delays that continue to put lives at risk.
3️⃣ Urgent action to stop the flow of Canadian-manufactured weapons that continue to appear in the hands of actors committing atrocities.
We look forward to continuing these critical conversations and working alongside federal partners to meaningfully support Sudanese Canadians and all families deeply affected by this war.

I have been hearing from Canadian Sudanese communities who have been living a constant nightmare as they watch loved ones in Sudan continue to experience a brutal, ceaseless war and suffer massacres, famine, and displacement. Many are urging Canada to do all it can to help save lives.
A scene of an elderly Sudanese woman crying from extreme hunger.
Her tears are not a sign of weakness, but rather a cry in the face of a silent world.
This is a woman who has spent her life and today cannot find a morsel of food to satisfy her hunger.
Oh Allah feed the hungry in Sudan and Palestine, provide for them from where they do not expect, and grant us hearts that help and do not let down. 🤲🏻
Recently I have met with members of the Iranian, Hong Kong and Sudanese communities very concerned about lengthy processing times for immigration programs from these countries. At the Immigration committee this week, I put their concerns directly to the Deputy Minister of IRCC.
@SalmaZahid15 Thank you for supporting our Sudanese cause.
Sudan is suffering from the effects of war, displacement,
and poor health conditions.
I hope that the processing of requests will be completed as soon as possible.
@SalmaZahid15 Thank you @SalmaZahid15. Countless Sudanese families live each day with the unbearable fear that their loved ones, parents, children, siblings, remain caught between bombs and borders. Granting them safe entry is not an act of charity; it is an act of justice.
Thank you for spotlighting the suffering of Sudanese Canadian families who are desperate to bring immediate family members to safety in Canada from the horrific war in Sudan.
I know that my own sister, Kholoud, remains at significant risk to her life in Sudan as a result of these delays by @CitImmCanada despite being the daughter, sister and aunt of Canadian citizens. She is ethnically Darfuri where genocide is committed daily against individuals like her.
