ππ‘ The Tale of the Three-Cow Cottage πΎπ§ββοΈ
When merchants and investors in the ancient Zombie Kingdom discovered Bitcoin, they lost interest in buying peasants' cottages to secure their wealth. As a result, a house cost only three cows, and that price never changed again.
@saylor Legends say this undead orb was once a cursed relic, brought to life by ancient blockchain magic. Its cracked surface and sharp teeth hint at centuries spent in relentless pursuit of digital gold, glowing faintly under flickering candlelight.
ππ§ββοΈ Merry Christmas from the Bitcoin Zombie Kingdom! πͺβ¨

It is obvious to me that the people who are currently hysterical about Ordinals / #bitcoin fees never truly grappled with the mathematical implications of the blockspace cap & the arguments presented by big blockers.
The fact is, #bitcoin blockspace is absurdly scarce and absurdly valuable - just like #bitcoin the asset. It must remain so in order to support mining in perpetuity in a world where the subsidy runs out.
To be able to send a multi-million or multi-billion dollar transaction that settles globally in ~10 mins - in a completely uncensorable and trustless manner - is a very very valuable thing.
In a hyper-bitcoinized world, a single #BTC TX is likely to cost the equivalent of tens of thousands - even hundreds of thousands - of dollars. This would still be a minuscule % fee for final settlement of a transaction using a physical asset worth millions / billions of dollars.
(Think about how much youβd pay in fees to sell a $500,000 house - for a physical asset to change hands. On the order of $30,000 - and it takes WEEKS. Think about how much it costs to transport $1M of gold.)
This was what the big blockers argued - this was the math that they did years ago - and concluded that blockspace MUST increase for #BTC to scale globally.
They were wrong, but they were smarter than the anti-ordinals hysterics because they realized the implication of keeping block size small and fixed NECESSITATES that #Bitcoin scales in layers and β¨the VAST majority of humans in planet earth never send a base layer transaction. β¨
This has been clear for years. If you are surprised or shocked by the fees we are seeing now, or if you think something needs to be done about them - regardless of what is causing them - you are WORSE than the big blockers, because you never truly understood their argument.
These fees are still CHEAP. If you believe hyperbitcoinization is inevitable, then current fees AS ABSURDLY CHEAP as $40,000 #bitcoin.
If you built a product that only works with $1-10 #BTC tx fees - hell, even $100 fees - you built a shitty product with a flawed premise.
Ordinals - unless they find some enormously economically valuable use case - are a BLIP. They are not worth fighting. They are destined to be competed out by TX with much higher economic value.
In conclusion, if you think these fees are a problem that needs a solution, you never really grappled with what the big blockers argued years ago, & you can cope and seethe into the void.

What if Ordinals are the Killer App of Bitcoin? Hear me out...
Many in the Bitcoin community, including myself since 2013, have been on the lookout for Bitcoin's "killer app". While Bitcoin as digital gold is a strong use case, what if Bitcoin's destiny is to be more than just a ledger, but a global notary β a universal, open public registry for various forms of data?
Imagine a modern Great Library of Alexandria, but on the Bitcoin blockchain. This could store art, books, articles, documents, contracts, code, libraries, and much more. Essentially, it would be a source of truth for the world, immutable and accessible to all.
Enter Bitcoin Ordinals. Ordinals transform Bitcoin from a mere financial ledger into a rich tapestry where each satoshi can carry unique information. This isn't just about storing data; it's about embedding meaning into the very fabric of Bitcoin.
A key impact of this shift is on mining profitability. Thanks to the growing interest in ordinals, fees are increasing, already surpassing block subsidies in some cases. Post-halving, this could become the main income for miners, ensuring the network's security and viability.
But there's more. Ordinals are "orangepilling" a new wave of hodlers. People who were previously uninterested in Bitcoin are now drawn to its expanded capabilities. This isn't just about investment; it's about participation in a new form of digital expression and preservation. Ordinals are redefining the narrative around Bitcoin. The age-old skepticism that "only criminals use Bitcoin" is clearly dispelled with the advent of ordinals. By embedding diverse forms of data β from art to important documents β ordinals showcase the legitimate, multifaceted uses of Bitcoin, appealing to a broader spectrum of investors with increased capabilities.
Moreover, ordinals are catalyzing innovation, turning Bitcoin into a global directory and a new development environment. Developers are storing entire libraries on-chain (like p5.js, three.js, etc.), creating a sort of npm on Bitcoin - open, reliable, and secure. And with recursive inscriptions where one inscription can call a previous ones like API calls, allows the creation of robust, on-chain software that could run video games, movies, or even complex software with gigabytes of data.
Ordinals are already showing signs that this might be a Bitcoin scaling solution, with innovations like CRBC20 from @CyBORg_BTC
The environmental aspect is also crucial. With ordinals, the energy expended in mining does double duty: securing the network and preserving important data.
In conclusion, ordinals could very well be the killer app Bitcoin has been waiting for. They offer a unique combination of security, immutability, and versatility, potentially transforming Bitcoin into the global notary of the digital age.
I know fees are high π€¬ but simply refuting Ordinals or calling them an "attack on Bitcoin" is missing an important truth, which is that Bitcoin is not what you want it to be, Bitcoin is it's own thing - it's something bigger than us.
What are your thoughts? Could ordinals be the key to unlocking Bitcoin's full potential? Let's discuss.

@lopp That's temporary issue. And huge fees are ok, the problem is in LN - still not used enough. What's more, I think that ordinals are positive for the network now, in the future they will be too expensive and high fees won't be a problem for large settlement on-chain tx.
The future belongs to El Salvador
Any country like the US where honesty is not allowed - whether in the money or in healthcare - will fail in a hyperbitcoinized world
