It’s all open source models from here.
American AI companies are simultaneously fighting Democrats (by automating blue jobs), Republicans (by rankling the US military), and China (by fruitlessly combating distillation attacks).
Solve for the equilibrium: open source models become the only trusted models. Centralized American AI burns bright, makes a ton of money, but eventually gets outcompeted by the privacy, freedom, and trust of decentralized local AI.
My wild, amateurish speculation is that the whole tariff drama is _partly_ a clever PR/media distraction from everything else the Trump team is accomplishing.
They know that mainstream media, rich boomers, think tank pundits, & lefty-libertarian globalists can be relied up to obsess about the stock market, global trade, China, etc., & can't resist giving their economic opinions as noisily as possible, as often as possible.
This soaks up a lot of the media attention that would otherwise be spent squawking about deportations, DOGE, federal spending cuts, DEI cuts, university reforms, etc.
The tariff drama creates a huge PR shadow that allows the administration's other priorities to hum along, stealthily, without much attention or opposition.
I very much appreciate this response. Yesterday was a bit like one of those pub brawls after which the combatants shake hands and have a drink. I'll watch with keen interest how the negotiations go. I still disagree with what @realDonaldTrump said about @ZelenskyyUa, but what matters is achieving peace and security for Ukrainians, ensuring that Russia is not rewarded for its aggression, and above all strengthening America's global position. Again, I wish you luck.

@Austen I regularly drink vegetable smoothies. Can’t make them while traveling so I freeze a couple in mason jars. TSA pulls my bag out and hand inspects every time, but never confiscates.
Here is a question for the x-verse: what is the best ai tool to enable work productivity through dialog while engaged in other activities such as walking or driving? Conversation gets archived and organized so that I can then act on it when I'm back on my laptop.
