The answer to this dilemma is that there is indeed something wrong with the world - as it is, not as it was created - but yet, “take heart; I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
Believe this and act on it, and you will be authentically and truly happy.
Most of the progressives/liberals I know personally have some sort of masochistic tendency or need to improve the world, which implies there's something wrong with the world, which is also sorta masochistic.
Imagine thinking the world is broken and full of problems that make you sad? Seems like a hard way to live.
I grant they may be right but I happen to accept the way the world is. Human nature is durably and intractably irredeemable and I see no need to feel bad about it.
“Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel.” This quote has been variously attributed to Horace Walpole, Racine, and La Bruyère but sums up how I feel, which is amused.
@CurlingCrypto@DevinOlsenn Based on @DevinOlsenn’s own testing of Rivian’s self driving system, they are definitely at least 4 years behind. Here is a video from @DirtyTesLa from 4 years ago, June 18, 2022. From what I saw in Devin’s video, Rivian does not yet have this capability:

I think this is very similar to the difference that @Papa_Heme has described between being a doctor in the age of @UpToDate vs being one in the age of @EvidenceOpen.
I would say that it’s definitely not perfect. You have to know enough to steer it in the right direction. At one point it built a whole plan for me based off a half inch branch from my main trunk line. Later, I asked it some similar questions about my situation and it decided that a half inch line was not sufficient for my condition. It will try to please you. If you sound like you prefer one solution, it will recommend it.
But you can’t even compare this to trying to find some random post on a forum somewhere from somebody who has a situation that’s kind of, maybe, just a little bit similar to yours.
That’s all wrapped up in the training!
@xwanyex You don’t even have to dispute the claim that people will consistently invest. The people claiming renting is better are wrong even if you assume that they consistently invest the money saved. Buying turns out to be drastically better over a 30 yr period and it’s not even close.
@emzanotti You are wrong. The curve is not much steeper now. This is all vibes and you present no data here to back up any of your claims. The fact is that there has never been a better time and place to be alive than in the United States today.

I think Cursor's Composer series will prove that the narrative that general AI labs (e.g., OpenAI and Anthropic) will eventually destroy every vertical application by releasing newer frontier LLMs is false.
Companies that have exclusive domain-specific data will be able to train models that outperform frontier LLMs at those specific tasks. You don't expect Composer 2.5 to write essays or solve complex math equations. You want it to code.
Now, one might say that frontier models will be able to match Cursor at coding. Yes, but at 10x the cost for now, and probably much more when subsidies come to an end.
When token prices spike and everyone becomes conscious of their AI spend, vertical AI will see a resurgence.
@tylerblack32 This is similar to how the evidence of so called “medical” marijuana (except for a few niche epilepsy cases) is extremely weak/non-existent. The whole movement for medical marijuana was motivated by the desire to normalize recreational use.
@ramit Later in the episode the guests say they are getting married in the Catholic Church and that marriage is for life. Shane is wearing a Miraculous Medal. His concern is that a prenup invalidates or nullifies a marriage. There are differing views on this but it is a valid concern.
@thornt25628@woke8yearold People have been making these stupid predictions about stock market returns needing to be bad in the future due to high valuation for years and years with their predictions being consistently wrong. Here is a confidently wrong one from a decade ago:
Here we are close to a decade letter, and looks this prediction/estimation so far has been wrong. Looks like about a 6 percent real return in this time frame. Hoping the trend continues all the way until Sep 30 2026.
@neerajadeshp@tommasodi_di This depends on whether you think the popular vote difference is the best measure for the closeness of an election. I am highly skeptical of this claim and think calculating something I came up with called the Number Needed to Flip (NNF) may be the better measure:
One reason that I think the Democrats have been in shock over the last few days is because they have over-interpreted the meaning of popular vote results and as a result have over-estimated the strength of their party over the last few presidential elections.
@JohnTinsman All of these except $TSM are in $QQQ. Just buy $QQQ and call it a day. Or better yet buy and hold $QLD (which has 24 percent annualized return since inception before the GFC.).
@BeaulacPhilip@FrHarrison I never claimed he was. My statement above is still correct. If there is something incorrect about that statement, please feel free to try again and correct it.
@FrHarrison That’s a a nice theory but actual history reveals that the new statement about inadmissibility by Pope Francis came into effect in 2018 and Ratzinger lived four more years past this time and did NOT amend his previous statement.
@thomaesplendor One can admit this but still find his statements disappointing in how it may mislead people as @PhilCatholic found similar statements by Bishop McElroy to be disappointing:

Q: Would you use a nuclear weapon against Iran?
Trump: No. Why would I need it? Why would a stupid question like be asked? A nuclear weapon should never be allowed to be used by anybody

Great video about how Roblox is a monopoly. It is bound to become the next giant consumer-facing company (the first such giant company since Facebook/Meta).

@davidpdeavel Yes. It’s not in vogue to admit on the populist left or the populist right, but things for essentially all cohorts are better than ever.
