India announces the 4 Indian astronauts for the #Gaganyaan mission to space.
I grew up seeing photos of only American astronauts & Russian Cosmonauts.
They were inspiring but I used to wistfully imagine & wonder if & when I would ever see fellow Indians in those adventurous space suits—on their way into Indian Spacecrafts.
That wish now seems to be turning into reality.
And I hope it will stoke the imagination and the aspiration of a whole new generation of Indians!

What skills should I build to be a founder one day?
I actually have an answer.
4 Skills, in order of importance:
1. Persuasive Communication
This goes beyond sales and marketing.
The ability to articulate what you think and get others on the same page is a huge unlock for any entrepreneurial venture.
Raising money, hiring top talent, finding partners: it all hinges on how well you can communicate
2. Problem Solving
Sensing problems, envisioning solutions, and executing your vision into reality.
For things big and small.
You have to develop this muscle.
Read about great visionaries and inventors
Search for problems and then design solutions, even if wacky, then try to implement it
Volunteer to take on the "annoying issue" your team has.
3. Leadership
Anyone with a few employees or reports is a leader.
And as a leader, you can shift the way the org runs.
Leadership IS NOT (just) having a plan and telling people what to do.
It's about empathy, inspiration, and service.
Understand your people, what moves them, what they hope for and aspire to.
Help them be bigger.
4. Business Judgement
This is the business school stuff which, much to popular dismay, is still EXTREMELY important.
Accounting and cash management basics, unit economics, markets and value chains.
These are crucial to ANY successful entrepreneur.
One of the remarkable things about having children is that they’re an automatic civilizing force. Not only do parents start modeling better behavior, but pretty much everyone you meet does too. The world softens in the presence of innocence. Everyone treads lighter. Normal people smile.
A world with fewer kids is colder and harder. Weird to think that the loss of civility in much of the world might just be linked to declining birth rates.
I do NOT like doing "stakeholder management".
I don't like it because:
- It is draining.
- It is exhausting.
- It feels like a task.
- It feels unnecessary.
Why should I waste so much time convincing (read:begging) others to do things that are OBVIOUS and GOOD for the product.
But, I know have to do it. I have to do it well. Stakeholders have the power and influence to make the product a success.
I've worked with 100s of stakeholders -- some good, some bad, some ugly.
And to tackle ALL kinds, I have a system.
Here are 3 tricks from the system, that you can start using right away.
👉 Humanise
Don't just talk. Make a human connection, like you would with a friend. I always say convincing a group of friends is easier than convincing a group of "colleagues"
This is how I humanise:
1. Make it casual -- talk about non-work things, their weekend, their dog, their kid. I always take an interest in their life. If they don't feel comfortable sharing, I don't push. Instead, I share about my life.
2. Say their name (often) -- as Dale Carnegie said, "Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language."
👉 Learn
Humanised-conversations encourages them to share more. When they share, you should learn about their "why"
Everyone has a goal they want to achieve. If you know that goal, you will be able to "influence" them easily.
My trick to uncover their goals: the 5-whys.
I keep asking "why" until I uncover the real motivation behind their actions.
👉 Speak their language
Everyone has a different style of communication. Some prefer details, some bullet lists, some data, and so on.
Talk to them in their language, and you will become a friend in no-time.
The best way to learn their language: OBSERVE
Listen to them when they talk, notice their style when they write messages / emails. If you do it long enough and well, you will see clear signals about their style.
If I can't find signals -- I just ask. Ask them if they like emails or messages. Do they prefer long detailed documents or summarised versions.

If you use these three simple tricks, you will not only make strong relationships, you will also be able to influence the toughest stakeholders.
Give them a go and let me know how they work for you.

You don’t need to be the smartest, but you need enough intelligence to notice when you are competing against people who are smarter than you. Life will get better once you start playing games you can win.
