High-resolution satellite imagery shows advanced runway construction at Japan’s Self-Defense Forces base on Mageshima Island.

The site is part of Japan’s wider effort to strengthen its southwestern defense posture and support future air operations, including training linked to U.S. carrier-based aircraft.

The runway surfaces and supporting infrastructure appear to be progressing rapidly, although the full base project is still not complete.
