@LukeGromen Hi Luke. My question is this: given much of the spending is index linked and the complaint is that politicians are too weak to cut, why will ‘running the economy hot’ answer the deficit/debt problem? All you’ll have is an even higher borrowing rate?
@ttmygh One of the many delusions America will undergo on its path to running a balanced budget. See also: tariffs; “run it hot”; blockchain treasuries, etc.. All of it guff.
@DariusDale42 Not an expert, but doesn't any such accord creates as many problems as it solves? High inflation, plunging $ (unless there is some sort of international cooperation), and a still ballooning deficit given the many indexed linked expenditures.
@Mayhem4Markets Lending to the US, or many others, is brave. At some point though, it becomes about whether a recession is going to be caused by rates - making bonds a buy. If oil stays at these prices I think 6% will do it.
@dailydirtnap Why? I’m not American, though I’ve lived there, but it looks to me that your present malaise is because you elected Obama and folk lost their shit. God alone knows what will happen should you elect a bird, but my guess is it’ll be bad.
@MichaelKantro Egads. I’m not an expert but from your graph these regimes tend to persist - perhaps implying that the hoped for ‘near term peak’ may not be a durable peak?
