Hey @WorldBollard have you seen this? Actual cannon bollards in the City of London! I mean, we knew they were there, but great to have photos! Bollardollogy (the book onCoL bollards https://t.co/manCPMwITc ) has these as captured French cannons
Glad to hear The Cally Liveable Neighbourhood is going ahead. Really excited about the improvements to Rufford - Carnoustie St. it’s a great route to Kings X. Hopefully a safer cycle crossing of Caledonian Rd will come in the future. https://t.co/XMciwfqJHr
@IsSaddleThereIs Nope, this is Mildmay Rd at Newington Green. It’s going to be an awesome E-W link! Work’s going on now are the lower right side of this plan.
@MacLondon@hackney_cycling@joncstone Really feel like that should be narrower with give way signs to improve compliance. Islington seems to be doing the same thing (Notably on Colebrook Row). We’ve challenged that and asked them to look at making future filters narrower.
@HistoryOfStokey@LAnderson_Frank@StokeyUpdates Totally agree, thus the initial subsidy idea. Clearly people enjoy having local shops, as several are doing quite well. I was thinking more along the lines of areas infill shops in areas that currently have a bit of a schlep to the high St to promote walking over driving.
@MacLondon@joncstone This is awesome. Last bit of infrastructure needed for a safe cycling route E-W to Victoria Park. I would normally get off and use the zebra when riding with the kids, so this will be a nice upgrade.
@HistoryOfStokey@LAnderson_Frank@StokeyUpdates I kinda feel like the council should buy and re-convert to retail some of these more local former shops, and perhaps subsidise rents for small grocery stores.
@HistoryOfStokey@LAnderson_Frank@StokeyUpdates I was thinking more about the small backstreet shops that seem to be disappearing. There are plenty of places where it is quite a walk to the main high street, which is precisely why the shops were there in the first place.
@StokeyUpdates I really feel that everyone should have a walkable corner shop for basics within 5min max. We use ours constantly, and even now send the kids on their own to grab something for us when we’ve run out. I feel comfortable with this because the shop keeper knows us and the kids.
@StokeyUpdates Do you know if there are regulations in place restricting conversion of retail to residential? I really feel like to many of the hyper local retail areas are slowly disappearing (Allen Rd, etc), which likely leads to more driving as people have to go further to shop.
