My hot take is that if this is going to get built, it might as well get built in Vegas and I’m ok with that
If it fails, it’ll join a long history of failed attractions from days gone by
If its successful (unlikely) LV will have a functioning transport system essentially for free
Man oh man! #CNU31 has been so much fun so far. The entire @VERDUNITY team is here. We’ve been inspired, and intrigued and learned a lot, and we just saw @KnightsBaseball win in extra innings! @planning_guru @k_shepherd
A couple of my colleagues are giving a presentation on policies/tools that undermine fiscal productivity and APATX this week. This is one of the items they are discussing https://t.co/gUwYGvETPW
A story in 3 acts:
- Apr 3rd community request: "we desperately need a crosswalk painted here"
- Sept 30th: CCLA paints two crosswalks
- Oct 18th: LADOT removes both crosswalks
We will not be deterred and will continue painting. If the city doesn't keep us safe, we keep us safe.
Finally, you can no longer be fined in California for "jaywalking", a derogatory term based on a slur that the auto industry made up in the 1920s-30s to shame pedestrians for using the public streets. 100 years late is better than never. https://t.co/zSVXNgGAB2
I’m hoping #cities and #urbandesign twitter can help me out here. I’m trying to find great examples of places and buildings that people might have considered “blighted” but were reactivated via low-cost, low-risk improvements. Feel free to RT.
As someone who has been repeatedly infuriated by the nuance and complexity of zoning from one community to another this Go Cultivate episode was really great. The Zoning Atlas is a must see resource and @sarabronin is really awesome. https://t.co/BTrY5bFiSB
@stevemouzon@kennedysmith Hey there Kennedy, I saw this tweet that Steve put out, and I’d love to hear a little more about this. Is this a percentage of built space in a downtown? Does this ring true in larger downtowns as in smaller ones? Love to see the research about this!
@SidKhurana3607@MarketUrbanism I understand that this is a list presented without commentary. But Leander has accomplished this with thousands of units of detached single family housing in suburban neighborhoods. For a short time apartments were being approved but successive councils have become anti-MF.
Asphalt Shingles. Vinyl Siding. Vinyl Windows. Vinyl Flooring. Asphalt Driveway
An entire house (& entire suburbs) made out of petroleum...
Every single component will last 20-30 years <tops>... then it will be trashed, & redone
Maybe this <wasn't> a great way to build?
One of the better parts of aging is being less concerned about when the the next big thing will get here. I’m still excited when new great things arrive, but I’m not so paralyzed by the anticipation.
