🚀 Smiles all around and a big thumbs up at the news that @MissionToPsyche has successfully deployed its solar arrays and found the Sun, a happy milestone marking the beginning of its Journey to a Metal World. #NASA#Psyche
Did you know that the plasmas in Hall thrusters, like the ones on the @MissionToPsyche spacecraft, do not behave as predicted by classical mechanics? We're actively learning how ours perform in flight. Fascinating. This video explains more! #PI_Daily https://t.co/XAOg5f2GpA
Exciting News from @NASAJPL ! 🚀 We brought a 1/4 scale model of the @MissionToPsyche to @aiaa SciTech, currently en route to the metal-rich asteroid. 🌌✨ Click to get insights on why Psyche is a fascinating destination and how we plan to get there!🛰️🔍https://t.co/h4r5BV46fR
News from #MissionToPsyche ! NASA's latest technology demo is breaks boundaries as it streams the first-ever video to be sent from deep space via laser! Our feline friends steal the show in this adorable cat-approved video from deep space! 🛰️ #NASA

@ltelkins@realpj@rhofer@MissionToPsyche DS1 and Dawn used gridded Ion Thrusters, which use less propellant (have higher Isp), but are intrinsically more complex and expensive than Hall effect thrusters. This is why Hall effect thrusters have become dominant in Earth-orbit applications. See https://t.co/DREvIjrncY
On Nov 8th, @MissionToPsyche made history with the first-ever firing of Hall Effect Thrusters in interplanetary space. A JPL/Maxar team watched it unfold from mission control. Congratulations!
(Below is Psyche’s thruster firing on Earth - no pics from space, just telemetry...)
@ltelkins@ka9q@lenoreingram@MissionToPsyche@moonyguy@nzw For now, the primary sources of torque are outgassing and solar radiation pressure. But once we start the Hall thrusters, the primary source of torque will be disturbance torques from the thrusters (especially swirl torque).
@MissionToPsyche's journey is a testament to the power of engineering. From simple whiteboard sketch to paper study to spacecraft in flight, this lucky group has been there since the beginning step 1 proposal to see this idea turn into reality. Go Psyche! Go @ltelkins!

Day 10 of #SpacetoberChallenge is “engine” and while I admit, I don’t really understand how @MissionToPsyche’s “Hall effect” thrusters are different than other electric propulsion systems, I do know the xenon ions glow in the most beautiful shade of blue. #SoPsyched
The countdown is on! In 6 days, @MissionToPsyche will launch to explore a metal asteroid. This mission will be 1st to use Hall Effect thrusters in interplanetary space - a milestone in planetary exploration. Click to learn more about this incredible tech https://t.co/DREvIjqPnq
🤘🎸Rock and roll…to LC 39A!
The #MissionToPsyche spacecraft, protected by its payload fairings, made the move from the processing facility to the launch pad hangar at @NASAKennedy. It will now be mated to a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

Our #MissionToPsyche is now set to launch Thursday, Oct. 12, aboard a @SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket: https://t.co/DQ5y87zLE1
This unique mission to a metal-rich asteroid could give us a one-of-a-kind window into how the solar system formed.
Exciting @NASA news! In 18 days, @MissionToPsyche will launch & make history as the 1st time Hall thrusters are used in interplanetary space. Spacecraft are the ultimate in function over form: every design has a story. Learn more in this fascinating read https://t.co/KDyBKKJD6R
I have had the pleasure of working on this Project for over 10 years now. Thanks to this incredible team, we are in the home stretch on the way to launch. Go @MissionToPsyche!
Over the last 12 yrs we've had >2,500 ppl work on @MissionToPsyche. At peak the team was ~850. In April we had a team meeting at @NASAJPL, so here is part of the team. We are all feeling it, 23 days to the open of the launch period! #PI_Daily
