Congratulations to Prof. Samantha Siedlecki (@oceanforecaster), who was recently awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor from @uconn. We are so proud of you! Read more about Siedlecki’s accomplishments here: https://t.co/79tBhGrdLv
We asked >900 staff at a big NGO how they perceived gender as impacting their careers & influence. We found women had less influence & more barriers to their careers (e.g., harassment, discrimination, and fear of retaliation). Men overestimated gender equity.
Stories like these are so valuable.
There will always be a guy who says “Women just don’t want to go into those careers. Maybe people have different preferences?”, but when you see the reality, it’s instantly clear how far from a free choice/preference the decision actually is.
“With intentional design and material selection, these new structures could support entire communities of marine life,” shares Carl LoBue, @nature_ny oceans program director. See how: https://t.co/0C3PIZ53aG
ICYMI: "I tend to think of puffins as a bunch of researchers. They're going out and sampling our marine ecosystem all summer, many times a day. ... They're really telling us to be concerned."

It was great to work with @MiriamWasser and @bstorrow to use maps to tell the story of the potential overlap between ocean species and development projects offshore.
1/🐟 When @bstorrow and I set out to write a story about offshore wind and fishing, we wanted to show where wind energy areas and important fisheries overlap
The amazing @marta_TNC & @claudinetweets made us some really informative maps (see thread)

The "fishermen vs offshore wind" conflict is a vivid illustration of the tradeoffs involved in confronting climate change.
But not all fishermen will experience the same impacts

We’re thrilled to announce we’re the recipients along with @rutgersu of a @nsf Convergence Accelerator grant to create regional climate change projections to enable equitable ocean planning for the blue economy. #nsffunded
There were ~240,000 reported Delta cases in the US last week (and probably another ~2 million unreported Delta infections) but yeah let's keep those Delta-carrying Europeans out!
