@IanCutress@Andes_Tech Linley literally wrote the book on chips for 30 years, will def take a look at this. The man went from designing PA-RISC to defining how the whole industry thinks about processors. Retired? Sure. Irrelevant? Never. ๐
Youโre both in good company!
@BMW if youโre correctly hashing and encrypting my password, why the length and character restrictions? Also - can you explain why my @1Password generated password is simultaneously acceptable and not acceptable?
@HeathrowAirport unreliable as always. Cannot even open on time. Whenever I travel through Heathrow, Iโm impressed to discover new and unpredictable ways of being let down. So embarrassing.
@TheKanter GM was great, but I couldn't stomach YTM being worse (in every way that mattered to me), so swapped to Spotify. Uploading my own music via desktop app was a bit unintuitive/cumbersome, but once set up, it streams to my devices no prob.
@AmericanExpress Should I infer from this that you are NOT hashing my password? Or that you're vulnerable to injection attacks?
Worrying security policy from a major financial institution...
Algorithm texts donโt talk about assorted {stack, branch, other} predictor, cache layout impact, etc. itโs quite depressing how removed from the actual hardware everything is
@andreif7@TheRealVeedrac @erikengheim Agree completely. I suspect most analyses out there use your piece as a template. For example, I'm not aware (?) of any other published pieces that have independently measured the ROB depth as ~630 (nice tool @TheRealVeedrac).
@andreif7 *As @JosephStPaul already mentioned.
@andreif7 I think a lot of people quote your ~630-deep ROB measurement using Veedrac's microarchitecturometer, great work on that piece, btw.
@adoran2 I find Douglas Adams' tangents and descriptions to be equally - if not more cynically - wonderful:
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
@IanCutress Data center side has a lot of inertia, but that cuts both ways. You'd be surprised (and probably a little worried, frankly) how often you see Opteron's still running enterprise workloads.
Very much looking forward to Milan.
@dcominottim@TheKanter Yeah, that's been my experience too. You'd think the iOS updates would be more reliable than the windows ones, but that's definitely not been my experience. iPad Pro resets: 2. Windows 10 resets: 0.
@IanCutress@Qualcomm Happens to me all the time. Always love the irony that massive digital leaders about to showcase digital innovation are manually transposing data! Fits
