@Ben_Beachy I’d like to propose Kalamazoo, Michigan as a hard hit community deserving of the President’s attention. Graphic Packaging International’s pollution is making our poorest and most vulnerable community members sick. We could use some help at the federal level please.
🧵Since it is becoming hard to track, here is a thread of the simply astounding weather records planet Earth has started shattering in recent weeks:

@EPA We need this rule to help protect Kalamazoo from dangerously high levels of hydrogen sulfide and other VOC's being emitted by @GraphicPkg_Intl Just look at the @MichiganHHS report suggesting our community "stay inside" to protect themselves..#KzooAirQuality

The @MichiganHHS health dept says air in a part of Kalamazoo hazardous.
Curious why more statewide health/environmental/advocacy organizations are not speaking out about this. A couple issued statements after I asked. @MichiganUnited came to event & tweeted voices. Thoughts?
These are gas levels from Sept 2019 to August 2022 at a community sensor in Kalamazoo. @MLive spoke to experts who shared health concerns months before the state health report came out, with an article on city sensor data in November.

The state of Michigan told people to go indoors if the odor / toxic gas outside is bothering them. This impacts homes adjacent to the factory the most, but residents believe there are impacts beyond the state’s investigation zone.

@KateAronoff@billmckibben I wonder if either of you have heard about this situation in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It’s been an uphill battle trying to get anyone to pay attention to this ongoing pollution emergency.
@GraphicPkg_Intl It doesn't really matter if you're spewing tons of poisonous gas into the air from your processing plant in Kalamazoo
