MassPotential is a nonprofit that exists to catalyze statewide educational improvement in #Massachusetts, so all students can reach their greatest potential.
Only 4 in 10 students in grades 3 thru 8 are reading proficiently in #Massachusetts. Help us ensure every child becomes a reader in every classroom in every school! #MassReads#maedu#mapoli#bospoli
"Too many students are silently failing while parents and families are misled by inaccurate, inflated grades. The state’s new standards must have weight if they are to gauge students’ ability to truly thrive after high school." - @MaryTamerBoston

When 72 to 93% of the majority of 8th graders can’t read, it’s time for @BostonSchools to admit there’s a problem & address it. How? By using evidence-based instruction & training teachers & school leaders on how to use it. #Literacy#MassReads#bospoli#mapoli
An Education Scorecard report reveals that #MA’s academic recovery is deeply uneven. While wealthier districts are nearing pre-pandemic levels, students in lower-income districts continue to face major learning losses — especially in reading.

Working with our House colleagues, I know we will come to a final resolution that ensures all our children learn to read and write and get the bright futures they deserve.
I am proud to lead the conference committee negotiations from the Senate on my #EarlyLiteracy bill which has been approved by the Senate and House with slightly different language.

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor W.E.B. Du Bois—a visionary scholar, activist, and #MA native—whose work reshaped our understanding of race, education, and opportunity. His legacy calls us to confront inequities and recognize and nurture the full brilliance of Black students.
Congratulations to the Massachusetts Senate, @SalDiDomenico, Pres. Spilka, @mass_potential, and the MassReads Coalition on the unanimous passage of a comprehensive literacy package based in the #scienceofreading. The kids of MA will benefit greatly from this work. @ExcelinEd
Boston's buried under two feet of snow right now, but the Massachusetts Senate just cleared a path for every child in our state to learn to read by passing S.2855. With this law, Massachusetts kids will learn to read using a curriculum grounded in research, from teachers who are trained to deliver it, and those who struggle will get help early instead of years too late.
@NCTQ is proud to be part of a coalition of educators, families, advocates, and researchers who understand how we teach kids to read matters and fought to bring instruction in line with the evidence. I’m immensely grateful to Mass Reads Coalition, @mass_potential, @EdTrustMA, @kerry_dons, @Ed4Excellence, TFA Massachusetts, and everyone else who helped make this win possible!
Big news from a bellwether state:
Massachusetts Senate votes unanimously to support bill that will introduce curriculum mandates, following unanimous support in the House.
Districts will need to select curricula off a to-be-determined state list.
