@jerseyjazzman@plthomasEdD Yes, meaning, structure, and visual. Visual is phonics. I’ve been teaching first grade for 20 years and phonics is a huge part of balance literacy. It’s ridiculous to say it’s not.
Parenthood has caused my perspective on homework to shift DRAMATICALLY lol
Like, y’all had 8 hours w my kid. Y’all couldn’t fit all the work in there?? I only got 3ish hours between home and bedtime. That’s OUR time. You’ll see them tomorrow 😆
@vickizun@plsurprinciple It goes farther back than that. I was teaching during George Bush’s No Child Left Behind. Kinder was full day and their were more standards than there are now- not to mention the high stakes testing in 2nd & up
@JenniferKillick A parent wrote a very kind letter about me to the superintendent and principal. I also received a blanket that the child had made - one of those fleece blankets with the tied edges.
@EdWeekTeacher Post it’s, books, cardstock, most art supplies, kid snacks, pencil grips, bins for storage, cleaning supplies, baby wipes, decorations, seating options, extra kid clothes, games, puzzles, cards, math manipulatives, plants, class pets & pet supplies, holiday items 4 celebrations…
@paul_emerich That’s awful. The need to control instead of empower teachers is a huge problem within public education. You wouldn’t hand a lawyer a manual and a script and blabber on about fidelity. Why do we do this to teachers?
@paul_emerich Serious misconceptions about guided reading are rampant. It’s not about not sounding out words and looking at pictures. It’s about teachers being highly trained to deeply understand reading and the reader and making strategic decisions to guide the reader.
