The next Louisiana Purchase? Here’s an idea: the United States acquires the Baja California Peninsula from Mexico for $1 to $5 trillion.
Every Mexican citizen living in Baja receives dual U.S.-Mexico citizenship, plus a $50,000 investment account.
Then America gets to work: world-class infrastructure, deep-water ports, desalination, nuclear energy, housing, universities, and industry. Tijuana and Mexicali could become major reindustrialization zones.
In return, the United States gains nearly 1,800 miles of some of the most spectacular coastline on Earth and the chance to build the great new economic region.
Is this a crazy idea? Of course. But so was the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
Welcome to Los Angeles, where I just walked by a single block of street, closed down for a pipe update project. Glad to see the city taking care of our infrastructure, but wait - 14 months to replace underground pipes over a single block?
Yesterday I got over 80 spam calls. Today I’ve had 27 before 8 am. We really need to do something to unhook/disable these spam callers. As everyone predicted, it gets worse by the day.
The most disappointing part about this loss is that now I'm going back to watching a limping #padres team. Let's hope the boys heat up tonight... the fans are desperate.
Notice how this Press Office only highlights Huntington Beach as news, not any of the other cities state wide that have taken a similar approach and lost (Anaheim, La Cañada, Elk Grove, amongst others).
Why? Because it’s ALWAYS an us v them mindset with this office. How can we go after and change their way of life. How can we make THEM lose.
This is a 2 minute video about taxing the wealthy.
There is no mention of programs it will fund. Or why the tax dollars are needed. Or what the money would be used for. Or how those less fortunate could be supported to themselves become wealthy.
The benefits are no longer the point.
The implicit message is about punishment. Punishing those doing well is now good politics.
Sign of the times —
It happened.
LA City Council voted 10-5 to include giving illegals the right to vote in the City Charter reform referendum that will be on the November ballot
Same ballot that will have the statewide Voter ID proposition
@BasedMikeLee help us SOS 🆘
We go where we need to be, and today that was @NASAKennedy.
Some of my senior engineers and I spent time at @blueorigin with @JeffBezos and @davill, speaking with the workforce and seeing the damage at LC-36 firsthand. I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from those working through the aftermath and better understand the challenges ahead.
There is a lot of work to do, but this is exactly why people choose careers in aerospace, whether at NASA, Blue Origin, or across the industry. The talent in this field thrives under pressure and performs at its best when solving the toughest problems.
We have been saying for months at NASA that we are not going to sit on our hands and wait for the capabilities necessary to achieve the nation’s most pressing objectives. We are going to take an active role alongside our partners, just as we did in the 1960s, to overcome setbacks, remove obstacles, and deliver the intended outcomes.
@NASA is committed to helping the Blue team recover, continue to advance their lunar lander and get New Glenn back to launching as soon as safely possible.
America’s greatest achievements in space were never the result of avoiding setbacks. They came from overcoming them. We have done it before, and we will do it again🇺🇸
It's not necessarily a huge deal unless the platforms/RSNs that distribute the games are also being shared.
For example, even if the Yankees share the rights fee that YES pays, they will still own a large share of a lucrative entity (possibly at least half the value of the franchise itself) that exists largely because the Yankees play baseball. It would be foolish for the MLBPA to agree to any scheme that doesn't include leveraged assets.
The media covering these labor negotiations really needs to bone up on the financial structures in the game. Otherwise, they will be reporting propaganda.
Guys we need to remember what profit is: the difference between how much a buyer is willing to pay for a thing versus what it cost to create it.
Profit happens only when the outputs are worth more than the inputs.
Profit is literally value creation.
Profit is good.
