NATO-Japan alignment is happening and the implications are (potentially) extensive. Unite the alliances. My latest: https://t.co/OafcMcT5B3 in @WarOnTheRocks
This is really big.
A machine learning study has found that the political leanings of economists not only influence the language they use to present their results in academic research, but also the very estimates they produce for several “objective” variables, such that the implied policy prescription is consistent with their partisan leaning.
This might shake economics to its core.
Economics has built much of its credibility on the presumption that its analyses are largely objective and that the role of politics is to choose trade-offs between objective benefits and costs on qualitatively different dimensions.
This article demonstrates that these “objective” benefits and costs may not actually be objective but instead a biased function of the economist’s political orientation.

Fall issue is live! In my @IntSecHarvard article I argue that China's rise has shifted the international system back to bipolarity. (ungated article here): https://t.co/GTRfHeFtvj

Kishida’s visit to the US was a resounding success across the board. As a former member of a speech writing team, I was particularly impressed by his many public addresses, not only to Congress but also at around a dozen sideline events. Impressive!
OpenAi releases a custom GPT-4 model optimized for the Japanese language, which is one of the most difficult for LLMs to understand. I expect Japan to be a huge market due to its big tech infrastructure, culture of innovation, and high demand for AI solutions across industries

Agree with this take: Putin underestimated the balancing effect his invasion would have. In addition to formal expansion, NATO is also now increasing its alignment with non-members especially in Asia. Japan is the big ticket item: https://t.co/OafcMcT5B3

Finally, Sweden. With Finland, it makes the Baltics much safer, let alone themselves and the rest of NATO. My take
