No one talks about this, but the secret to creative excellence is having 8 projects with concurrent deadlines and overlapping meetings and being in a constant state of panic
What does the new age designer look like?
Yesterday I submitted multiple PR’s, worked on g2m strategy, fixed some website bugs and deployed, worked on mobile polish, built out brand artifacts and strategy, created a video ad, pitched a product idea which I then designed and will also pm it going forward.
@cwattrus Started as a designer and now leads our agent team
The role is changing. It’s not just “should designer code". You don’t just do 1 or 2 things. You do many things horizontally. You are a swiss army knife
I would become incredibly bored in the old world
Almost 2 years ago I started at Flatfile with the goal to fix data migration.
First we built an agent to run data migrations, one of the most complex workflows in business. As we were building, we kept finding solutions that traveled outside of columns and rows.
Then we realized something: if you can solve that, why not use our agent to redesign onboarding flows, manage recurring tasks, prepare for calls, build dashboards, write code, query databases, research markets, write documents, create presentations…
What started as a small side project exploring how work gets done, grew into our new product called Obvious.
There are times when you have to flip a complex concept to simplify it again. When you do it just right, all the dots connect.
After months of building, Obvious is now public. How we work is changing. I’m excited to be building a tool that focuses on the systems that allow all of us to do our best work 🌼
