New preprint from my postdoctoral times in Paris is now out on biorXiv 🎉: "Evo-Scope: Fully automated assessment of correlated evolution on phylogenetic trees." https://t.co/3IcMU2dHQx
In this project, we developed a framework to assess in fast time correlated 1/3
evolution on a phylogenetic tree. This paper is a follow-up+improvement+combination of two previous published tools from the lab: epics (https://t.co/8IWDRytaVX) and epocs (https://t.co/PFiveJHxyU), to which we added new functionalities and improved computational speed. 2/3
New preprint with @MarioSanter@DaganLab@HildegardUecker on the fixation dynamics of plasmids and polyploid chromosomes. We find that genetic variation can be maintained for some time - the heterozygosity window. https://t.co/q2dSl5Awh5

Our new study on pangenome evolution in mussel endosymbionts transmitted via the environment, we find that gene content is mainly evolving vertically, not horizontally, with @devaropi@DaganLab https://t.co/w7w9ndxM8B
New research suggests prokaryotic #plasmids rarely carry genes essential to their bacterial hosts
Wein et al @TanaWein@iwangtoknow@DaganLab show that #Ecoli plasmids have few essential genes, and acquisition of an essential gene can lead to plasmid loss

Great paper now out from @GraceBlackwel1 !
https://t.co/U15GZAyi7M
Grace wanted to study MGEs across the bacterial phylogeny, so assembled 661,405 bacterial genomes (all data from ENA as of Nov 2018, minus those failing QC), providing the community with a great resource. 1/n
Why did cyanobacteria become multicellular?Reconstructing evolutionary trait emergence infers the tradeoff between N2 fixation & photosynthesis as main driver. Collaboration with G Landan, F Tria, J Alcorta & @DaganLab. Thanks @MSCActions, @DAAD_Germany

Guys, this is one of the most spectacular encounters I've ever filmed! And I'm sure these are the weirdest creatures you will see today!

Our updated Belgian @nextstrain build is now online, including sequences from GISAID until January 15th; this marks the first build with Belgian sequences from 2021, which are placed in different lineages in the phylogenetic tree, including 501Y.V1 1/4

There are many, many #SARSCoV2#COVID19 variants out there! A few have caught the attention of scientists in Europe - we're trying to monitor them!
I'll be maintaining updated information here:
