ICYMI: ”@EPA has paid far less attention to the eight less affluent, less white communities in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Texas, Puerto Rico, and West Virginia where the risk of #cancer from ethylene oxide is even greater.” #race#class#EJ https://t.co/WC62wIIczh
#OTD in 1984, a U.S.-owned pesticide factory explosion killed and poisoned thousands in Bhopal, India.
We must act to prevent disasters like this and hold companies responsible when they happen. A new resolution introduced today would help achieve that:

We’re calling on @DollarTree / @familydollar & @DollarGeneral: no more toxic products on the shelves! Visit your local dollar store in person, or send an email today. Sign up to receive additional materials to help you take action: https://t.co/DmyTGJqUMr
#nontoxicdollarstores
CHS will be testing dollar store products this year in order to assess their progress on phasing out harmful chemicals. Follow @nontoxdlrstores for CHS’ coverage of the Dollar General shareholder meetings and to learn how you can get involved in making dollar store products safe.
TODAY, the Campaign for Healthier Solutions brings community voices to the Dollar General shareholder meeting. It’s time for @DollarGeneral to buckle down & show consistent commitment to improving their chemical policy & stocking local, healthy food. #dollargeneral#dollarstore
We know @EPA calls them "accidents".. but there's a reason we don't refer to chemical fires, explosions and releases that way.
⬇️@tejasbarrios says it best.
One chemical disaster is unacceptable. One every other day is unconscionable. Chemical disasters are entirely preventable. Environmental Justice communities are disproportionately harmed. @EPA can change this. Will they #preventchemicaldisasters? #FixTheRMP#EJ
On average, there’s a chemical incident in the U.S. every two days.
@johnyangtv reports from North Carolina, where one city is trying to move forward after a chemical disaster in 2022. https://t.co/DZbpFF8kvG
@The99stores say they’re “committed to the customers they serve”- so why won’t they follow @dollartree & commit to phase out chemicals like PFAS & phthalates in their products that have been linked to serious health conditions? Tell ‘em to protect shoppers https://t.co/QHqLK797b6
It’s beyond time for the @DOJPH to issue the summons compelling Dow to appear in Indian Court so that they can finally, decades later, be brought to justice for the 1984 Bhopal pesticide gas disaster that has since killed and injured nearly a half million people.
Decades ago, poor maintenance & safety failures at a Union Carbide (now DOW Chemical) plant in Bhopal, India caused a massive leak of poisonous gas killing over 7,000 people and harming countless others. The DOJ must help India get justice for the victims from this U.S. company.
A hurricane could spark a chemical disaster so massive that no corner of New Orleans would be safe. According to the Chalmette Refinery’s Risk Management Plan, an accident could unleash a fast-moving and potentially lethal gas that could reach anywhere in the metro area. (🧵1/7)
Way to go @nontoxdlrstores on the approved @DollarGeneral shareholder resolution for a worker safety and well-being audit! DG now needs to phase out toxic chemicals from receipts to protect their workers!
Breaking: A shareholder resolution calling for @DollarGeneral to conduct an independent worker safety and well-being audit was approved.
Dollar General advised its shareholders to vote no but we weren't having it.
There is a chemical explosion, fire or toxic release every other day in the US. "That is just too much."
@mayanye shares recommendations of coalition calling on @EPA to #preventchemicaldisasters by requiring facilities to switch to safer chemical alternatives.
Today we're in DC calling for a #FarmBill that centers human health by reducing reliance on toxic chemicals.
Farmworkers and small farmers agree- there are better ways to farm. Follow to hear our stories & priorities👇
Cancer in Houston, air pollution in Chicago, water in Flint — ppl nationwide are dealing w contamination, and I talked to activists in other places who see their stories in the aftermath of the East Palestine derailment.
“The fight is really the same.” https://t.co/3yQodXVR5D
Growing up in a healthy environment can be the difference between life & death.
It’s no coincidence that communities that have faced decades of environmental racism have higher rates of cancer and other health issues.
Today, we’re introducing #EJforAll.

Our Supreme Court has reserved all its sympathy and justice ONLY for Union Carbide, a corporation that continues to abscond from the criminal case on Bhopal gas disaster even today. Survivors of Bhopal disaster deserve just closure, writes Upendra Baxi
https://t.co/7P8QwoFQcF
Five organizations of the December 1984 Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal today jointly condemned the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the Curative Petition. It a “judicial assault on the constitutional and legal rights of the survivors of the Union Carbide disaster"
The @EPA plays a critical role in safeguarding communities from chemical disasters, but we need to do more – which is why I’m urging the agency to strengthen their proposed Risk Management Program rule before it’s finalized later this year.
