@ashleyblatt_edu I’m glad his risk paid off! Yeah I feel that it’s hard to go against the grain sometimes, but if you really trust and believe in your way, then it is also hard to not do it your way.
#quotes4edu Have you ever experienced a situation like the nonverbal student in Marialice’s story, where you were insulted by someone’s assumption of your ability? How did that make you feel, and why?
@BSchroederUmass I think just reflecting on the situation. Asking myself what worked, what didn’t work, and try to figure out why it didn’t work. I might ask the opinions of others, and look for some advice.
@BSchroederUmass I think that we really have to work on building relationships with our students and that we have to acknowledge, and cherish them all as individuals. What would yours be?
@meganflahert I think by acknowledging the fact that you are playing a very influential role in their lives, and that you need to be a good role model to them and lead by example. I personally like the fact that as a teacher, I can help them to grow morally as well as intellectually.
@constmcook I think accepting that you’re only human is important to avoid burnout. Sometimes just stepping back and acknowledging what you’re doing, rather than what you’re not. I think for connecting with students, it helps to share your life with them, i.e sharing stories, photos, etc.
@joeyice3 Mom mom and sister are using Seasaw to communicate with their pupils (elementary school) and it’s great because they are able to send voice notes, videos and photos to their students and vice versa.
@constmcook@constmcook thank you! This actually wasn’t very difficult to make. I just used a template on Canva to make the pictures, and then iMovie pretty much did the rest for me!
@Mason64752401 There was a teacher in my HS who I used to think was really scary. She had such a loud voice and got really cross if someone didn’t have their work done. Then when I had her teaching me I realized that she just wanted her students to succeed. I was still scared of her though.
@joeyice3 I think connecting the material to their own lives in some way. Make it concrete and relatable and let them know the reason for learning what they are learning.
