Today, Nepal concluded its historic Presidency of the @UN Economic and Social Council (#ECOSOC), successfully completing the first-ever leadership of a principal organ of the United Nations in our nation's history.

Throughout the Presidency, Nepal remained committed to fostering dialogue, building consensus, and advancing sustainable development through effective multilateral cooperation.

We congratulate H.E. Ambassador Amar Bendjama of Algeria on assuming the Presidency and wish him every success as he leads the Council in the year ahead.

The Government of Nepal welcomes the signing of the "The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding Between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran" today.

We welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire on 8 April 2026 and are encouraged to witness the successful culmination of diplomatic efforts in signing of the United States-Iran Peace Deal by the Presidents of the United States and Iran.

The Government of Nepal has been closely monitoring the developments in West Asia since the onset of the conflict, which has had far-reaching implications for the global economy including Nepal. Nepal remains hopeful that the Peace Deal will contribute to lasting peace and stability in West Asia, while facilitating the normalisation of the maritime navigation affected by the conflict.

Nepal also deeply appreciates the pivotal role played by the countries mediating the process and reiterates its support to all the efforts by the international community aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
