@nmlinguaphile I haven't tried fried yet. Grew up with a hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint called Knotty Pine BBQ that did smoked bologna. Haven't had it in years, but it brings back great childhood memories.
The world still runs on fossil fuels
Globally, fossil fuels supply 81.1% today (2023)
only marginally down from 81.4% in 2000
Fossil fuels are not on track to end by 2050
but rather in 4-10 centuries

I think I'm a rare breed that believes in the Divine Council biblical cosmology, and also thinks that the anti-rapture stuff is bad propaganda.
First century church fathers like Ireneaus were talking about it 1700 years before Darby.
@tedcruz I proudly stood in the way of your AI-data center amendment to the Big Beautiful Bill that would have given those companies immunity from the law. In fact, @mtgreenee and I got it stripped from the bill. Did your big tech cronies still let you cash their checks after you failed?
Heiser ONLY helped Christians understand the complexity of higher beings the Bible overtly talks about.
Modern people don’t get it.
The “gods” are real (sometimes linked to angels or territorial spirits etc) but they are ALWAYS inferior, created, & accountable to Yahweh.
🤦🏼♂️
For the record - I love Heiser. Wish he were alive. He dared to use his scholarship to argue that modern Christians unconsciously read the Bible through Enlightenment rationalism.
His famous line was essentially:
“The Bible was written for us, not to us.”
Meaning: we must understand the ancient Near Eastern worldview, cosmic geography, temple theology,
spiritual beings, and Second Temple Jewish thought.
One instance of my then pre-verbal toddler son showcasing this is forever etched in my memory. We were staying with grandparents in a house he'd never been. One night he was disturbed by a dark hallway. He kept going over to it and waiting in the corner like something was down there. I still remember him grunting and seemingly garnering up the courage to confront whatever was scaring him. He stood in archway, and began to take his little hand and gesturing from his side to down the hall. The only thing i can liken it to was him trying to cast a spell or shoot something out of his arm at whatever scared him down the hall. It wasn't polished. It wasn't 'hand in the shape of a gun'. And he would grunt with force at each time. But he was willing something of his and hurling it at his enemy in front. We had been very careful of his media consumption. He had no devices. He had seen no violent videos. But he, seemingly innately, wanted to use a tool to vanquish his foes.
Look for a classical conversations co-op close to you. Christian/classical method/critical thinking. https://t.co/RYGiWhEZsk If you guys have any questions, my wife is a bit of an expert and we can get in touch. (We're about an hour North.) But there are many flavor co-ops so you don't have to do it alone.
Not to mention my Boomer parents (both sets - child of divorce - go figure) were always toting the "pull yourself up by your bootstrap" crap, but all of my parents 1. Had college paid for. 2. Had financial jumpstarts on their first home. 3. Had turn-key jobs waiting for them. But yeah, younger generations 'have it so good..."
Mr. Sanger is hung up on the Bible’s use of the word “elohim.” It can mean “gods,” and there are verses where God calls lesser elohim “gods.”
Sanger wants to argue that He didn’t really mean it; God was simply calling those elohim “gods” because that’s what pagans called them.
Mike Heiser was always careful to point out that Yahweh is ontologically unique, the only uncreated Being in the universe—not first among equals, like Baal or Zeus.
In Hebrew, “elohim” always refers to a denizen of the spirit realm. Sometimes Yahweh, sometimes other, lesser beings. That’s just a fact.
Larry Sanger is tearing down a straw man.
I did not see this coming, but my election has become an inflection point for our whole country. Today we make history.
