Pleased to see this model from my final PhD study (PMID: 35157333) chosen as the @FASEBorg cover image for the March and April issues. This model depicts the effects of topical menthol application on BAT thermogenesis. S/O to coauthors @HeshamShamshoum@MedakKyle@UofG_HHNS
Supporting the concept that #GLP1 agonist drugs lower #BloodPressure independent from their weight loss effects: https://t.co/bztTSq6NUR
Kyle D. Medak @MedakKyle Daniel J. Drucker @DanielJDrucker & team @SinaiHealth identify the vascular smooth muscle GLP-1 receptor as a key cellular target for the actions of GLP-1 medicines to lower blood pressure.
The figure: Renal GLP1R/Glp1r is expressed in human and murine vascular smooth
muscle cells (VSMCs) and Glp1rVSM-/- mice have reduced Glp1r transcripts in renal
tissues.
Science has named the development of glucagon-like peptide-1 (#GLP1) agonists and this year's discovery that these drugs can blunt obesity-associated health problems as the 2023 #BreakthroughOfTheYear.

Jeff Friedman has long been a likely winner for discovering leptin. However, leptin never broadly worked as a therapy for obesity. With the remarkable success of GLP1 agonists, is it possible that leptin could be passed over in favor of GLP1 research (Drucker and colleagues)?
When I was a student, I thought that my dissertation would be my life's work. Now, even the thought of opening it back up makes me laugh.
Graduate students, try to remember: this is just the beginning. Your career likely will not be defined by the work you do in your PhD.

We are proud to present data in #anaemia of chronic kidney disease (CKD) at #ERA22.
Anaemia of CKD can lead to decreased activity and fatigue. Based on Nobel-prize-winning science, we’re committed to developing innovative solutions for people living with anaemia of CKD.
Congrats to Chun-Wa Chung for her election to the UK Academy of Medical Sciences! This recognises her many contributions to GSK medicine discovery and development programs, including her innovative work on novel epigenetic proteins. #AMSFellows2022 https://t.co/yCYQmCYXtS
“YOUR PROOFS ARE READY, YOU HAVE 48 HOURS TO RESPOND”
Bro, you ghosted me 9 months ago so this new deadline seems a bit sudden and also I thought this was academic publishing, not a hostage negotiation
@MartinKlingens4 Congratulations! Very nice work! Curious if you think the difference in susceptibility to DIO between your UCP1 KO model and Kozak’s is explained by the different C57BL/6 substrains used to generate the model? 6J tend to have a more robust DIO response (PMID: 20057372)
