Samia Suluhu is now actively pivoting Tanzania toward Russia in an apparent effort to shield herself and her brutal regime from accountability for the October 29 killings.

If the United States is serious about helping Tanzania and supporting justice, it must act quickly. History has shown how authoritarian leaders can use foreign military and political backing to entrench their power and avoid accountability.

To African citizens across the continent: pay close attention to what is happening in Tanzania.

China and Russia are not standing with the victims of the October 29 massacre. Too often, they align themselves with Africa’s most repressive leaders rather than with ordinary citizens struggling for freedom, dignity, and human rights.

While Western governments continue to raise concerns and call for independent investigations in Tanzania, Russia and China are providing support to the butcher of Tanzania.
