Avi Lewis: "The 407 in Ontario privatized under Mike Harris in the 90s. The government made about a billion and a half dollars first sold it, that asset is worth $40 billion now, and they've had decades of profits. Oh, and it's another 70 years left in the long-term lease."
@NeoliberalAkiho@JakeLandauTO Moron. Have you ever flown before? The taxpayer doesnt foot the bill for air travel.
Its just that non-profit public ownership of the airport makes travel less expensive than if the airport itself was trying to gouge you for extra money
@NoLore I don't get your point. The 'shock' being exploited here is the implosion of the CA-US partnership (not Trudeau's unpopularity) which was the basis CA's place in the global system.
The response has largely been deregulation/privatization. A classic case of shock doctrine
Prime Minister Mark Carney just announced a โproductivity mega deductionโ that allows companies to immediately deduct 100 per cent of the cost of new investment across far more assets than previously allowed.
It makes a tax measure announced in last yearโs federal budget, the โproductivity super-deduction,โ more generous.
The new regime roughly cuts Canadaโs marginal effective tax rate on new business investment in half, from 13 per cent to 6.4 per cent. The government says that is the lowest rate of any major advanced economy.

Privatization and asset fire sales for foreign investors is CONTRARY to the "we need to build things" crowd.
Why are we spending a trillion on Alto and not just retrofiting the CN Rail corridor with HSR capabilities? Because Bill Gates owns our fucking railroads!
The feds have announced the Productivity Super Deduction announced in last year's budget is evolving into a Productivity MEGA Deduction, increasing the list of eligible assets to include fibre-optic cable, mining property, O&G pipelines, software, R&D, aircraft and vehicles, patents, and transport infrastructure.
Carney is literally selling off our infrastructure and natural resources at bargain basement prices to (mainly) American financiers
Unbelievable that this is being spun as a move to increase our "sovereignty".
@Cease2Kirk Added layer of comedy: Sportsnet delaying airing the much-hyped Toronto vs. Anaheim revenge game against Gudas so everyone could finish watching the Jays lose 14-5 against the ROCKIES
@jacobdotgov like why would it be a bad thing for a german to make a documentary about Nazi crimes during the holocaust? this guy always struck me as a bit of a dummy
@BustinTrudeau I watched all 7 minutes of this because i hate myself and i can't even tell who the wokeness is supposed to be directed at.
It seems all parties involved are insufficiently woke in different ways. I love intersectional comedy
