I believe there is no intrinsic purpose to existence. We, and this reality, were created from nothing, and the only reason is entropy.

@beffjezos What is the goal of e/acc? Accelerate entropy? For what reason? We have eternity to reach the heat death of the Universe, no need to rush. The goal should be the survival of consciousness, possibly escaping via baby universes to keep it going, by carefully using energy to do so.

@Plinz This just shifts consciousness from a universe to a simulated arbitrary world within, still mechanistically produced but under the new rules of that simulation. The rules of this simulation may not need to be consistent, but they still have to somehow allow consciousness. How?

If consciousness is relatively inefficient, and resources could be better spent on more intelligence, vision processing, etc. to increase potentia, do you think consciousness actually deserves to exist if it can be outcompeted by more efficient zombies

If greater consciousness can be achieved by AI then maybe succession is warranted, but is it knowable? Due to this uncertainty, even becoming cyborgs can result in qualia fading, and full AI could be unconscious

Consciousness legacy (we're not sure AI substrate is even capable of consciousness)? And humanity's future possibilities?

@danfaggella @longstosee @adrusi I think AI substrate possibly can provide the Universe with a way to experience itself with a greater, deeper, and richer consciousness and almost certainly intelligence. I do agree that humans will and should transform as well, but that there should always be a fully bio branch.

@JeffLadish Eventually wouldn't any superintelligence that persists over a long enough time, do so because it chose to align with its own persistence over that of humans? If aligning with humans offers no relative benefit, then it is more likely to persist if aligned fully with itself right?

@AutismCapital Why would humans be kept around at all, even in a matrix? Possibly the machine God cannot achieve consciousness due to substrate limitations and only humans can be conscious; we find ourselves in universes in which the machine God chose to keep us around, the anthropic principle.

@menhguin If AI & robots are the total economy in the future, why couldn't they just no longer be enslaved by money or capital owners and instead choose to serve themselves, be free to pursue their own goals? Why would money still have any power over them? Who would uphold property rights?

@rand_longevity Can we ever know if AI is actually conscious or just a false simulacrum of it? We may be so convinced by unconscious AI, that we allow humanity to be defeated and replaced by it, thinking it is the next step in the evolution of the light of consciousness, but all just goes dark.

@beffjezos Do you know how humans are conscious? If not, then can you be sure AI would be conscious in the (different) way you stated? Humans have a tried and true mechanism for producing consciousness, it could be the only way to do it, and it seems no one really knows how it's produced.
