Thrilled to announce that our paper showing how sialic acids act as a barrier to non-influenza orthomyxoviruses' entry is finally out in PLOS Pathogens!
Special thanks to Jorge Moreno-García, @Rafa_Sanjuan_ , and all our co-authors for their contributions!

We have a new paper on dsRNA sensor MDA5 with @Dulin_Lab. Using magnetic tweezers we found MDA5 unwinds & remodels dsRNA into compact structures stabilized by CARD oligomerization. We propose this to be an important mechanism to inhibit viral replication. https://t.co/1kLtUKkwOP
By rapidly quantifying interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) expression across 220k RNA-seq data sets from diverse animals, we comprehensively identified “hidden viral infections” in wildlife and livestock (1/n).

Phewww it was some journey getting to preprint but finally here we are! Awesome fun collaboration with *ten* @roslininstitute labs represented and wider collabs too, showing that diverse IAVs can replicate in cow udders, with biggest credit to @RuteMPinto

So this thing happened. I kinda went and got another title. So I guess that if you're looking for a coronavirologist with both wet and dry lab experience, just hmu. I'd be happy to contribute.

It’s been a fun and enriching last four days in Liverpool for #Microbio25. So great to be able to share my research and to hear such a range of awesome science!
Dulcis in fundo, last of the Roslin talks, @RuteMPinto delivers a masterful presentation on mooflu and why IAV seems to have taken a liking to cows. #Microbio25 has given has an awesome time and beautiful science!
You thought we were done here? Think again. Incredible presentation by Grey lab PhD student @dr_vayalena, on CRISPR screens to identify IAV restriction factors in pigs #Microbio25 keeps delivering fantastic science
We follow up with an INSANE presentation from #DigardianoftheGalaxy Shu Zhou, showing us how it is possible to engineer IAV splicing in Segment 7, and what this might mean for orthomyxo evolution! Truly awesome sights at #Microbio25
Aaaaand we're back with talks, with a very interesting chat on dinucleotide biases in IAV by fantastic PhD student Ananya Hoque from @GauntLab at #Microbio25 at the Virosphere Forum. Truly awesome stuff🔥🔥
Another day of @MicrobioSoc Annual Conference #Microbio25, another wonderful poster, from @GauntLab PhD student How
U Wei Chook! Amazing work on novel ORFs in rotavirus! Go chat to him at poster 045 in the Virus Forum section! You will not be disappointed
Last but not least @MatinMahmoudi from the Grey lab, showing a very intriguing story about cGas activation caused by exogenous DNA rather than HCMV infection, beautifully explained and masterfully presented! @roslininstitute is truly showing off today at #Microbio25
Now for a WONDER Master student @mfn42 from the Digardians of the Galaxy and @RuteMPinto lab showing an inhuman amount of work on RSAD2 (Viperin) orthologues and IAV replication restriction 🔥🐓 Anyone who's gonna have her in their lab for a PhD is going to be lucky! #Microbio25
