Your preparation is going to help you show up. It doesn't just help you react - it helps you anticipate.

"If you can find a couple plays during the game that you've either seen on tape or seen at practice - you can apply 'em in the game."

When the game slows down - that's when preparation has done its job.

I LOVE this! When FM was training at my house years ago this was my biggest message to him & all the other QBs here: Take Ownership of Your Offense! Always ask the WHY, challenge everything (in a good way) & when doing it, you always have to have the knowledge to back it up or it carries no weight!

Very few QBs have the conviction to do this, afraid to step on toes & offend their coach or never gain the knowledge needed! There is only ONE person with ball in their hands when it matters, so you better be comfortable with what you are being asked to do!

I also believe that any GOOD coach would want to talk about the WHY as much as possible & would welcome the challenge to DEFEND their WHY or find a BETTER way of doing something!

My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out.

Eats the best food, stays in top notch accomodations. Excursions, tours, nicest beaches, etc.

Great guy, I'm happy for him.

But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness.

What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could.

Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe.

Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach.

Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act.

Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts.

Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides.

Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra.

When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers.

Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.

Heaven ushered in a hero of the faith last night as my Dad was welcomed home!

Many will say sorry for your loss but the truth is he’s not lost, we know exactly where he is.

He’s home.
Forever!

I asked him last week what he looked forward to most about Heaven, and he simply said, “Jesus.”

He couldn’t wait to see Jesus face to face.
Praise God that his wait is over.
Death has been swallowed up in victory.
He’s healed and whole now.

So we don’t mourn as those with no hope.

30 years ago… I sat and watched team after team pass me by, most of them TWICE!

In my mind, I should’ve already been gone before the 61st pick. The last pick in the first round, or as I thought about it, the first pick in the third round. But because I was not “ideal” and labeled a “tweener”, I sat excitedly, yet angrily, awaiting my name to be called.  

But as I grew in my walk with Christ, I began to understand that, for the believer, delay is often God’s setup.

That frustration… that anger… I was blessed by the Lord to harness those emotions, to build something far greater than what I imagined possible… that chip on my shoulder became an asset to my new teammates, organization, home & fan base, not a liability!!

I didn’t run from it. I USED IT.

Used it in my preparation.
Used it in my mindset.
Used it to become who God was calling me to be.

What felt like rejection… was really direction.
What felt like a setback… was part of His plan.

Don’t waste what you feel. Don’t fight it…
FAITH it!
Use it!!
