Dr. Julia McDonald, an abortion provider based in Maine, says we have a history of standing for independence, freedom, & individual rights.
She urges lawmakers to pass LD 780 on to voters so the people of Maine can have a direct say in the future of repro autonomy.

Speaker @RTalbotRoss says repro rights are fundamental human rights.
She notes 21 states have enacted bans or near total bans on an abortion and that in Maine we cannot look away. She says we have to stand up & fight back.

We love to see it!
LD 1619, An Act to Improve Maine's Reproductive Privacy Laws has passed the ME House! This bill places trust in patients & providers to make private medical decisions w/o political interference.
On to the Senate!

"When I place an ultrasound probe on a patient’s abdomen & have to tell her I am unable to care for her at my clinic, & also that no one in Maine is able to help her, I have failed my patient.
Maine has failed a patient."

The Human Rights Campaign has declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people living in the U.S. — the first time the organization has made such a warning in its 40-year history.
NOW @GovJanetMills and leading lawmakers are holding a press conference today at the state house as ME Leg HCIFS & Judiciary committees hear bills that will define the future of abortion rights in Maine.

"I’m a mother, a Mainer, a climate strategist & now, a reproductive rights activist. I’m sharing my deeply personal story with you because right now in Maine we have the opportunity to come together & help people like me & families like mine."

It makes me sad to think about how our behaviors in desired pregnancies are weaponized to violate our bodily autonomy. Its ok to invest in and personify pregnancies from day 1 if you are instantly invested and in love with the potential. But forcing it on someone is violence.
Arkansas Republicans have rejected an abortion ban exception for raped children.
Apparently, 10 year-olds are too young to read books with LBGTQ characters in them, but old enough to be forced into pregnancy

It is critically important that Maine lawmakers rise to this moment and act to protect patients and providers from politically motivated attacks not grounded in medical science or proper understanding of pregnancy.

Maine Needs shared this letter from a teacher watching students struggle with housing insecurity. The need is dire and it’s immediate. Emergency housing funds can’t wait! #ld3
Too many Maine families are losing their housing with nowhere else to go. Parents with babies are sleeping in tents and cars in December. We need emergency housing funds now! @SenatorBrakey, pls support LD3.

Holy hell, LePage is clueless. And yes please, use this as a sign to get out of politics! Abortion vs. economy is a false dichotomy — Mainers get it. #mepolitics
On why he thinks he lost: “I will tell the American people and the Maine people, if heating oil is not as important as abortion, if you prefer abortion over heating oil and feeding your families, then I’m telling you I should have never gotten into politics.”
Cackling over LePage being surprised about this: “I missed the message. It’s about abortion and not heating oil.”
You sure as shit did! Economic freedom is impossible without the right to abortion. #mepolitics#RoeYourVote@JessicaValenti
.@PaulLePage2022 delivers a brief fiery speech to his supporters taking aim at @JanetMillsforME. "You are not an honest sincere person," LePage said. "You're an elitist..." He did formally concede. @NEWSCENTERmaine#mepolitics
Tonight, Maine people sent a clear message. We will continue to move forward, and won’t go back. We will continue to fight problems, and not one another. This night belongs to all of us. Thank you, Maine! I love you!
