DRC: Is Tshisekedi’s Government Turning the Country into a Prison Out of Fear of Its Own People?
President Félix Tshisekedi’s government continues to raise serious questions about whether it has confidence in its own leadership and enjoys the trust of the population. Several developments are fueling these concerns.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), reports suggest that senior military officers face restrictions on traveling from one province to another, while senior government officials reportedly cannot freely board flights to foreign destinations from N’Djili International Airport without going through official procedures. Now, the situation appears to be escalating, with a letter reportedly issued in Sankuru Province prohibiting young people from leaving the province for other destinations, except for students, sick people, and others holding officially authorized permits.
These developments raise serious questions: **Why is Tshisekedi’s government imposing restrictions on the freedom of movement of its citizens instead of providing them with security, peace, and opportunities to improve their lives?** If a government trusts its people, why would it prevent them from moving freely and working wherever they wish within their own country?
When a government prioritizes restricting citizens’ movements, monitoring officials and military officers, and detaining people suspected of holding views different from those of the ruling authorities instead of addressing the population’s problems, it raises serious concerns about the public’s confidence in that government.
Even more troubling are allegations that some officials and military officers are being detained or investigated because they speak Swahili, originate from eastern DRC, or are suspected of having previously worked with former President Joseph Kabila. If these allegations are true, they would point to serious concerns about discrimination, violations of citizens’ rights, and the use of state security institutions against people perceived as opponents of the government.
Rather than continually blaming Rwanda and using it as a scapegoat for the country’s internal problems, Tshisekedi’s government should examine its own actions, explain to the population why such restrictions are being imposed, and respect citizens’ fundamental rights.
**If Tshisekedi’s government truly trusts its citizens and has confidence in its own leadership, why impose measures that make the country resemble a prison, where citizens, government officials, and military officers fear that they cannot move freely?**
History shows that governments that neglect the needs of their people while prioritizing restrictions on their freedoms and silencing dissent risk losing public confidence. The solution is not to blame Rwanda at every turn, but to address the problems facing the Congolese people, respect their rights, and build a country in which citizens feel that they truly belong.

we are electing our leaders at the local government level, bringing leadership closer to the people. This is how we are showing up here in Nyakabanda! We continue to express our gratitude to the Inkotanyi who sacrificed so much to give us a country where every citizen is valued🇷🇼
President Paul Kagame is not against the true church; the issue is with churches that fail to give back to society while enriching their leaders, who claim to be shepherds of God’s flock.
A true church should be a source of hope, compassion, and transformation, not merely a means for its leader to accumulate wealth. Spiritual leadership comes with responsibility: to serve the people, support the vulnerable, and contribute to the development of society.
Under President Kagame’s leadership, Rwanda has also taken measures to protect public welfare, including banning plastic bags to help protect the environment and restricting harmful alcoholic beverages to address public health and safety concerns.
Leadership is about protecting people, improving their lives, and building a better society. Whether in government or religion, those entrusted with people’s well-being should be accountable for their actions. Faith should be demonstrated not only through preaching, but also through integrity, compassion, responsibility, and tangible service to humanity.
A shepherd’s duty is not simply to gather the sheep, but to care for them.
President Paul Kagame led the successful military struggle that stopped the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He took command at a time when the world chose to look away and do nothing to prevent the systematic slaughter of over one million innocent Tutsi. Under his strong leadership, local forces defeated the genocidal government and restored peace to a shattered country, establishing a foundation of unity that allowed the nation to rebuild from the ashes.
The tragedy was made much worse because the international community completely abandoned the people of Rwanda. Following the start of the violence, the United Nations Security Council made the terrible decision to withdraw most of its peacekeepers. This decision left vulnerable citizens with zero international protection, leaving them completely alone to face a highly organized killing machine.
This historic failure is an official fact that has been admitted by the United Nations itself in later investigations. Because the world failed to act, Rwanda’s survival and its modern development were achieved entirely through local resilience and the exceptional leadership of President Kagame .
Today, this legacy of self-reliance continues to drive Rwanda forward into a safe, proud, and world-class future.

Under the leadership of President Paul Kagame and First Lady Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, Rwanda has proven that empowering young people is a real strategy, not just a slogan. Today, youth are actively leading the country. They hold key positions in the Cabinet, Parliament, and top businesses, bringing fresh skills and ideas to national policies.
Through the Imbuto Foundation, the First Lady provides young Rwandans with education, mentorship, and funding for their ideas. Programs like ArtRwanda-Ubuhanzi and iAccelerator have turned creative talents into real jobs and businesses.
Today’s #MeetThePresident shows the strong bond between the President and the youth. It is a relationship built on trust, high standards, and mutual respect. Inspired by this leadership, Rwanda’s youth are proud to take responsibility, protect the country's progress, and build a bright, self-reliant future. 🇷🇼
🇷🇼🎂 Happy Birthday to President Paul Kagame, the one and only Super General! Born in Rwanda in 1957, his journey shaped his historic leadership in Rwanda’s liberation. He is celebrated as the only General to have led the fight that stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. While the Holocaust ended with Nazi Germany’s defeat by the Allied powers, Rwanda’s liberation was led by the RPA under Kagame’s command.
As President, Kagame has championed reconciliation and national unity, guiding Rwanda toward a future where Rwandans stand together, united and inseparable. His role in liberation and rebuilding remains a defining part of Rwanda’s modern history. 🇷🇼❤️
