Twitter is a pleasure because here its only mind vs mind, thought vs thought, and the extent to which some minds can function is self-referential narratives. No matter what is presented, “FightFalsehood” will not change his beliefs, should the new evidence undermine them.
On the flipside, anything supporting his beliefs is overweighted.
Just an unconscious soul riding the train to death.
Whats your exact hope here?
That their awareness of the religious portion would make them what, less liberal? But then theres still a huge liberal movement in the country itself, surely they’re aware ?
As an aside, both sides should also accept the middle ground - a religious band without a desire for theocracy.
How common is a pipeline between physical commodities and electronic trading?
Do O&G traders go to HFT or vice versa?
Seems like the baseline skills are complementary.
Also what proportion of an MMs performance is attributed to automated signals? If an avg HFT stripped itself of its signal stack, but kept all the low latency infra, would the still perform
Going into the day with a plan
- checklist of non-negotiable tasks
- Blocked time for projects
- exercise
- family/friends interface time
is the most midwit but effective play.
For example today I had
1st session: proj A
2nd session: proj A
3rd session: proj B
5 misc one-off tasks
meet with gf
train boxing
and that helped add the necessary structure to not focus on FINDING a task but rather DOING it. Much better use of grit.
I try and get this list ready the night prior, with some misc tasks added through the day. Tasks get sourced from my ongoing tasks management repo which hosts both projects and one-off tasks. misc tasks list may be empty on daily plan in which case I'll find tasks to do in the day depending on which context tree theyre filed in the task manager.
Overall a good system will drive you steadily towards completing your projects and realizing your goals. Will deep dive more later.
@liquiditygoblin Hows it different from fitting mid vol and then pricing your spread with delta times the spread cost of the underlying? Curious why this approach, since both should yield a similar result for your bid/ask
Thats on top of the nerdification of exchange contracts that are increasing the pricing requirements at the same time.
On the other hand crypto is still simple from technicals, its more about your distributed setup and exchange relations. Is it an open field? No, but thats half the fun.
Iranians are absolutely not in support of their critical infrastructure being destroyed. IDF is taking advantage of Iranian people’s trust, which may have been the only neutral/positive civilian support base left in the region. You strike our oil and gas, endangering millions of lives, and then come on video and say you’re behind the Iranian people? It definitely doesn’t feel like it.
Since when do you care about our cultural heritage?!
The regime you represent is responsible not only for the massacre of tens of thousands of Iranians, but also for the systematic destruction and irreversible damages to thousands of archaeological sites and historical monuments across Iran, pushing the country’s cultural heritage into a catastrophic crisis.
As an Iranian archaeologist, let me remind you of just a few examples.
In the very first days after the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979, Sadegh Khalkhali, a fanatic cleric, marched toward Persepolis, intending to destroy one of the most significant landmarks of Iran’s ancient civilization.
Over the past four decades, countless archaeological sites have been destroyed or submerged by dam projects carried out by the IRGC’s networks across the country.
Historical urban fabrics in old cities like Shiraz have been bulldozed to make way for the expansion of religious complexes.
UNESCO World Heritage sites like Persepolis and Naqsh-e Rostam, as well as the historic city of Isfahan, are now facing serious danger due to severe land subsidence directly caused by the regime’s reckless and unsustainable water policies.
At the same time, countless archaeological sites have been looted and damaged over the past decades, while the authorities have done virtually nothing to prevent it.
But the it does not stop there.
It is absolutely unjustifiable that Iran still has no ICOM Red List for its cultural property.
It is absolutely unjustifiable that Iranian cultural sites and monuments had no Blue Shield protection until last week.
It is absolutely unjustifiable that in a country with hundreds of museums, only six standard emergency storage facilities exist to safeguard collections, according to a state media report published in June 2025.
It is absolutely unjustifiable that just one week before the outbreak of war, the deputy of the regime’s Cultural Heritage Ministry instructed museum directors to prepare for reopening before Nowruz as part of a so-called effort toward “normalization,” despite the escalating emergency.
It is absolutely unjustifiable that the IRGC has built military facilities within the buffer zones of historical sites, placing them directly at risk during armed conflict.
Any damage to Iran’s cultural heritage is a heartbreaking tragedy and cannot be justified under any circumstances. However, a regime that has spent decades systematically destroying, neglecting, and endangering Iran’s cultural heritage has no moral credibility when it suddenly claims to care about its protection today.
isnt this just selection bias? Your friends are in the most religious city and they themselves are religious students, hence are biased towards the government.
The bitterness (its not just in diaspora) comes from decades of oppression. Its wrong for them to conflate the anger with the religion itself, these are two separate things. But these are the lived experiences of Iranians transmuted into trauma, which has a tendency to trump reason.
As much as you believe diaspora is not reflective of Iran, you should believe a religious stronghold is not reflective of the wider Iranian society.

You are 100% safer in the UAE, in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, even with missiles intercepted overhead, than walking through parts of London or Paris after 9pm. Why? Because here, authority is trusted, the law is enforced, and your safety is protected. Don’t buy fake news. The UAE is strong, secure, and fully capable of tackling every threat. Life continues as usual, calm, confident, and in control.
