@JanJekielek I didn't do pretty much any of my homework at secondary school, it was usually copied or rushed in the morning before school. I am committed and damn good at my job and have always gone above and beyond. Evidence shows homework only impacts academics in later secondary!

@smithsmm I agree with you. The rules around digital exams are a nightmare - we didn't proceed with a qual because that was the only option and it wasn't feasible. We've done exams at a student's home rather than online as it was better for all.

@CF_Farrow I'm SLT in a SEND school. Some of our students wear a uniform (fairly comfy with a few options) some of our students aren't able to for various reasons. 'SEND' is not a homogenous group - they are all individuals with different needs.

I'm on Adoption Leave from school, they've had 'the call'. Offered to jump online for a few hours to help where I can while little one is asleep- IT have locked my account because I'm on leave. Not helpful!

@realdoll03 That does sound very over-zealous for secondary SEND. Maybe they've had a Safeguarding with another child and now they're hypervigilant! I'd genuinely ask them what the purpose is behind the email - is it to cover their backs for safeguarding or because they want it to change....

@realdoll03 ....we noticed a change in eating habits or were concerned about weight loss etc. When I was their age I wouldn't eat all day either! Can you meet with school to highlight you are aware, you can't force feed them so the emails are pointless! (I'm SLT at a SEND provision)

@realdoll03 We have quite a few children that will not eat before school (also have quite a few that won't eat while in school too). We have free breakfast available for any student who wants to eat when they get in - otherwise our staff know our kid's needs - we'd only email a parent if...

@ChopsyBristol ...ask for their Exams policies, they may be able to put in a late exemption if appropriate. They should also have an appeals policy - follow it and enter a formal complaint otherwise.(I'm exams officer + an AHT for T+L at my school)

@ChopsyBristol Schools have to show they have made every effort to do it in their curric, if a student is unable to access due to SEND needs they can apply for an exemption (we have for one of ours which was approved) and parent should be informed. What grade have they put in? You need to....

@bannon1975 When I worked in primary this was my stance - if it has words it's reading. Read the signs on a car journey, a cereal packet, a magazine, instructions to a game. I also told parents they could write this in their reading record. Reading is not just a reading scheme book!

@MrDavidScales Most of our kids can't type and we didn't move forward with Functional Skills in Computing because of the online exam component - it was a logistical nightmare especially to be compliant with JCQ regs and as a tiny school!

@Ria1984 Few years ago I did this as a lesson with some KS2 when I taught abroad + asked if they'd print a book of photos of them + hand it out to random people at the shopping centre. They looked at me like I was mad until I explained with no privacy thats what they were doing!

@MissCatnach I do always find it incredibly ironic that we do so much education on e-safety, yet post pictures of children that are not old enough to consent to their picture being put on social media! After the recent AI Safeguarding training about explicit images - it just seems insane!

You know the situation with CAMHS is bad when you nearly die of shock that one of your students has an appointment with someone and refferal was only put in a couple of months ago!
