The Sindh government has failed to take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of Pashtun leaders Ali Wazir and Haji Samad Lala, who have spent nearly two years in custody.

For the past two weeks, Haji Samad Lala’s health has been deteriorating, yet despite repeated requests to the jail superintendent, no adequate medical care has been provided.

@BBhuttoZardari , @MuradAliShahPPP , and @HajiAliHassanZ must be held accountable for the treatment of political prisoners under Sindh’s administration. A respected elder and political leader is being treated like a terrorist or criminal instead of being provided basic human rights and medical care.

Denying healthcare to an elderly prisoner is unacceptable.

Today, the cases of Ali Wazir and Haji Abdul Samad were heard in the Dadu court. They appeared before the court along with Advocate Imdad Haider Solangi’s legal team and Advocate Azhar Hussain Laghari.

Once again, as has become routine, the proceedings were adjourned, delaying justice. The Additional Judge No. 2 was on summer vacation, and as a result, the hearing in Haji Abdul Samad Khan’s case was postponed until 4 August.

Meanwhile, Ali Wazir’s case was heard before the Sessions Judge in Dadu, and the next hearing has been scheduled for 31 July.

The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement International Conference 2026 will be held on 14 July 2026 at the Nelson Mandela Lecture Theatre, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Theme:
Internal Colonialism, Imperialism, and Pashtun Resistance: The Politics of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement
For decades, Pashtun regions have remained at the intersection of militarisation, imperial intervention, political marginalisation, and state violence. This conference seeks to critically examine the structures of internal colonialism and imperialism that continue to shape the lives, identities, and futures of the Pashtun people, while exploring the emergence of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement as one of the most significant contemporary non-violent movements for justice, dignity, and accountability.
Bringing together academics, researchers, journalists, lawyers, human rights defenders, students, and activists from across the world, the conference aims to create an international platform for critical debate on colonial continuities, the politics of the frontier, enforced disappearances, displacement, militarisation, resistance, and the struggle for democratic rights and self-determination.
At a time when voices from the margins continue to be silenced, this conference seeks to amplify scholarship, lived experiences, and political dialogue that challenge dominant narratives and contribute to a more just and democratic future.
