@lukeisamazing Something for @sentantiq - wasn't Popsikles one of the minor Achaeans in the Iliad, famous for being coolheaded and coldblooded in battle, even though armed just with a stick?
@william_whyte I remember a neighbour dispute some years ago, about a garden fence moved eight or nine inches into the adjoining property. It all went downhill from encroachment to ABH, injured pets, and thousands of pounds of damages. All in genteel Surrey
@qikipedia Anamorphosis was well known to both artists and connoisseurs from the 16th Century onwards, see the slightly later Edward VI and Charles I portraits. Plato mentions skewed perspectives, and Leonardo da Vinci is sometimes credited with the (re)invention of the technique
@gmoult You got me on a wormhole journey looking for visually similar churches (the tent-like spire) and was surprised how many US exemples are there, plus various others in the UK and elsewhere, all from the 1960—1970s. Still no idea who the architects are for this one
@OliverKamm Anthea Bell's translations are great successes, she kept the original voice yet lent it a clear voice in English. Her versions of French idiomatic puns are nothing if not genius, exemplified for me by the Gallic Idéfix becoming Dogmatix, and Panoramix - Getafix
