Absolutely delighted to have stumbled on a new review of 'Quakers, Christ and the Enlightenment' including this line, which made my day. Thank you for your encouragement @MillerJayD.
“When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” C. S. Lewis
Pope Leo XIV: "Among these ideologies, I consider particularly insidious the one that suggests that every person must earn or justify his or her own worth, to the point of attributing greater value to those who are more efficient or effective. From this perspective, persons end up being reduced to a means of achieving results, a resource to be used and exploited, and are no longer recognized as a proper end in themselves who should never be instrumentalized. The value of persons, however, does not depend on what they achieve or produce. There are rights that apply to everyone simply by virtue of being human, and no human power can legitimately deny or arbitrarily limit them." #MagnificaHumanitas
In my new book The Vanishing Church, I tell the story about a church service I attended in college.
Young guy comes in late with his girlfriend and baby.
During Prayers of People he speaks up and says, "I lost my job and I'm not sure I can pay rent."
"Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer."
As the service ends, an older guy comes up to that young man and says, "I own the lumber yard and you can come work with me tomorrow."
It's not magic.
It's how faith communities operate.
How can we remember those we have loved and lost?
Head of research @mlmpennington appears on @BBCRadio4's Beyond Belief alongside Johanna Holmes OBE, Peter Ross, and Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg discussing the role of graveyards in grief.

I’ve now. watched this new animation from @emilydowne___@Theosthinktank countless times and it hasn’t lost even a little bit of its impact.
What makes a mother? “Sharing the home of my soul with another….”
Just stunning.
What makes a mother?
A new mother is in a process of radical change, sometimes minimal, often drastic.
Morphing, transforming, transcending. But does anybody see her?

Absurd and inhuman violence is spreading ferociously through the sacred places of the Christian East, profaned by the blasphemy of war and the brutality of business, with no regard for people’s lives, which are considered at most collateral damage of self-interest. But no gain can be worth the life of the weakest, children, or families. No cause can justify the shedding of innocent blood.
‘As soon as my work required me to start speaking publicly about Christianity, I stopped showing up entirely. ..The more openly I talked about it, the more I was privately overwhelmed by doubts.’ Appreciated this honesty from ‘poster girl’ Lamorna Ash

“Had he died in a more merciful, less deliberately dehumanising way, it would not be possible to see in his death the sum of all horrors.”
@flemingrut on the theological implications of the fact that Jesus was not just executed, but crucified.
As it is Good Friday what do Britons think Christian values are? Top is ‘treating others as you would like to be treated’, forgiveness and compassion for those who are suffering. While values associated with debates around ‘Christian Nationalism’ come to the bottom of the list
Absolutely delighted that Motherhood vs the Machine has been shortlisted for a Sandford St Martin award! I learned so much making the podcast, and especially loved the range of different disciplines that had something to say on the topic. Do have a listen https://t.co/FJ2mRqUygC
What do Brits actually think about acceptability of religious practice in public spaces? Most are permissive on open religious ceremonies & split on public evangelism. Where Britons tend to object is exclusionary practice or infringement on others freedom to public areas/spaces.
Happy #SocialPrescribingDay
Today we note how social prescribing connects people to community–based activities to improve well-being, but what role do faith groups have to play in this?

I have to say, the reaction on here to Archbishop Sarah’s pilgrimage is very disappointing. First of all, the facts: she is breaking her pilgrimage to attend the Lords to vote on the abortion amendments, which obviously took some organisation because the pilgrimage was long planned and the date of the Lords debate only announced on Friday.
""Mummy, I want you to hold my hand."
My 3yo daughter's last words before she settled and fell asleep last night. The need for reassuring touch is such a basic human instinct. I don't think we grow out of it. How are we accounting for that in the AI world that we're building?
