@dan_tan@PhattonPaul@BOD1878@StanCollymore I used to make the “tourism” argument when I was pro-royal, but it’s bollocks. As someone has already mentioned France, I’ll reiterate, France has the most tourist visitors in the world, and they got rid of their royal family hundreds of years ago.
@Saskiaaa_____@jesushlebowski “It's horrifying that we all instantly hear of something like this and assume it's likely just another foreign killer trying to hurt us”.
“All”? Not everybody is a bigot like you.
@Heeehooooo@fingalpimpernel Gove was crossing on a red light, and without looking.
However you look at it, I don’t see why people are defending a pedestrian who acted like that.
@le__dauphin@pendefig@michaelgove If there are lights that suggest people should behave a certain way, but in fact you can just ignore them, then is far from a safety feature. It’s actually creating a situation that makes crossing the road more dangerous.
@le__dauphin@oliverOB04@pendefig@michaelgove Er, how is that changing subject? I was actually seeing your point of view, and basically saying “ok, the law says this, but surely the pedestrian shouldn’t just walk out into the road without looking, and against a red light”?
But you’ve now come across as a bit of a dick.
@le__dauphin@oliverOB04@pendefig@michaelgove So why is the cyclist the bad person here when a pedestrian ignored a red light? The cyclist didn’t hit him, but was rightly annoyed.
@le__dauphin@pendefig@michaelgove “Already crossing” refers to when they started to cross on a green. It doesn’t mean they have priority when they started to cross when it was red, otherwise it negates the need for any lights whatsoever.
@le__dauphin@oliverOB04@pendefig@michaelgove They don’t. If pedestrians have the freedom to cross when it’s red, why does the Highway Code make a distinction about them having priority on a GREEN SIGNAL?
@markwolfy@benjyminty This is a light-controlled crossing. It has nothing to do with the rule change that came in on 29th January 2022, referring to pedestrian priority at junctions.
@Claire_bot5@pendefig@michaelgove The Highway Code is very clear. At light-controlled crossings, pedestrians have priority on a GREEN SIGNAL. Ergo, they don’t on red signals.
@Claire_bot5@pendefig@michaelgove But he didn’t even drive into the pedestrian, never mind a hypothetical car.
The argument is whether the pedestrian has the right to walk into the road even though they have a red light. They don’t.
