📈 Average UK private rents increased by 8.7% over the last 12 months.
🚨 The sector is out of control and contributing to widening inequality and homelessness.
💚 The Green Party would introduce rent controls to stop the exploitation of private renters by landlords.
Judge who gave Thames Water £3bn bailout was partner at law firm who USED TO WORK FOR THEM
Judge Leech was a partner in a firm linked to #ThamesWater. However, this is just the tip of the corporate-corrupted iceberg. HT @damian_from. @MrTopple reports:
https://t.co/ttedgoH6qC
"Southern Water asks investors for a further £900m rescue."
And just incase you thought @Thameswater was the only financial basket case think again, @SouthernWater is in really desperate need of money, debt downgraded to 'junk' status by the credit rating agencies they also think their 54% pricing increase isn't enough and are now appealing to the @CMAgovUK
https://t.co/OmAPQpfYUf
"Six utility firms are taking the settlements to the competitions regulator, with some demanding increases of up to 83%."
Oh, by the way, if you want to gauge just how badly water companies are screwing govt and the regulators right now just wait until you see the size of year's executive bonus payouts.
Trebles all round as @PrivateEyeNews would say.
https://t.co/rnyE0vWIHv
Increasing your Water Bills 44% ABOVE inflation in the next 5 years isn't enough for the Water Companies, they have appealed to Ofwat to let them increase them up to 83% ABOVE inflation.
Like if they can get stuffed.
RT if we should nationalise the lot.
"We have to join together as one, and stop this from going any further."
Laura Reineke of @HenleyMermaids reacts to today's £3 billion bailout. Thames Water limps on, leaking cash, and failing its 16 million customers.
It's privatisation, and it's rotten to the core.
Thames Water got their £3bn bailout approved at the High Court, but where was the Environment Secretary? 🤔
The judge slammed Steve Reed for not attending. 😡
Governments should govern.
Sleepy Steve needs to wake up, sort this mess and take back Thames!

It was a big day last week presenting my Ten Minute Rule Bill to #ProtectNurse. 💙
I was shocked that anyone can call themselves a nurse! So, my Bill would prevent misuse of the title - enhancing patient safety & ensuring respect for registered nurses.
ICYMI, my recap ⏪📽️
"Approval for higher bills and loading more debt begs the question: who is Thames Water serving anymore?"
Now there's a good question, a damned good question.
https://t.co/Ea4BEV1cpT
The facts: almost £1 billion of bill payers' money spent just so that Thames Water can carry on ripping of its customers and polluting our rivers and streams.
Water needs to be taken into public ownership.
Ash Williams of @WindrushWasp outside the High Court this morning.
Cancel that direct debit!
If we all followed Jenny’s lead, it would be an incredibly effective & legal way to hold TW to account.
@labour & @Ofwat conspicuously absent once again from any kind of regulation and leadership
#boycottwaterbills
Dear @SteveReedMP Why is it OK for customers to throw £1billion away to parasite water companies, adding to the £85Bn that didn't go towards doing their job?
People are getting even angrier.
Here Ewan Mcgaughy explains how we can fix the problem.
https://t.co/0ZTNvXkQL2
Today, our courts sided with the model of profiting off pollution by permitting failing Thames Water a £3 billion bailout. And we are furious. 😡
We believe this judgement is a massive missed opportunity for making an example out of our failing water industry and taking a step towards the transformational reform the broken water sector urgently requires. The Government still has the opportunity to place the debt-ridden company into special administration, however, they seem intent on sitting on their hands. But this fight isn't over.
Our friends @We_OwnIt and @WindrushWasp
have done incredible work in forcing the court to consider this case. Now, we need to have the Independent Water Commission in our sights, and we will be doing everything we can to ensure they deliver government recommendations to overhaul this broken system. Stick with us and we will #EndSewagePollution
Hear from SAS Campaigns Manager, Rob, on his take:
Dear @SteveReedMP why did YOU decide to waste @ £1billion of customers' money on avoidable fees when you could have taken over Thames Water for nothing and spent that billion on fixing something important?

Are you happy that the Canadian, Qatari and Saudia Arabian owners of Thames Water are using their £19bn debt to move £3bn a year straight out of the UK into their tax havens without paying any tax?
It is literally your money being stolen from you to fund foreign billionaires.
