My project aims to develop a sense of community with students through their history & utilising knowledge within the local community. I believe that through my engagement with Twitter this has been effortless & is transferable to many communities across Australia. #UoNTeach
This is a great opportunity to connect students to the Aboriginal heritage in their local #community. Ensuring that local heritage is taught authentically through a source like this is a real benefit to teachers and students. #UoNTeach Thank you for sharing @c3188061
The local AECG should be an important connection teachers make when teaching local Indigenous cultures and histories. Connecting students to the local community this way will be something I am eager to accomplish in my unit. What a terrific learning opportunity. #UoNTeach
The inclusion of the community also demonstrates a teacher's pedagogy that is inclusive and diverse in their understanding of how best to teach a culturally diverse classroom (Rana & Culbreath, 2019). #UoNTeach
Using community assets should be a necessity in the modern classroom. The inclusion of local culture, arts and environment should be utilized to improve the overall practicality of education (Cox-Petersen, 2010). #UoNTeach#communityassets
What a great session to have with not only students but their parents as well. It's all about explicit teaching regardless of the content. I'm sure we have all reacted to a 1 with a 5 response. #UoNTeach
According to Ferreira, (2014) teacher-centred lessons are almost impossible when using Google Apps. Google provides opportunities to collaborate, explore, scaffold, & provide timely feedback. Great for a project with research opportunities and student direction. #UoNTeach
Active participation can look different depending on the student. For some learners, collaborating in @googledocs is a great way to engage in class discussions and contribute to group projects. Learn more in this #GSuiteEdu tutorial: https://t.co/hekZeEXWgY #a11y
An excursion set in local nature can deepen students learning, excite & engage while showing how to sustain & protect local heritage and cultural sites within their #community. NSW National Parks excursions are supportive of the NSW curriculum #UoNTeach https://t.co/66ewJ6KKLc
'Bring your familiar understandings, but be willing to grow beyond these', a protocol of https://t.co/R6FPuRyMQt. Learning is about the growth of knowledge through stories, sharing, & doing. Inclusion of 8 Ways in my project will support both teaching & learning. #UoNTeach
When teaching students #community history Lowe, 2017, suggests that teachers must honour, understand, & actively reflect on history to meet the needs of Aboriginal students. These steps can lead to greater community engagement & learning opportunities across the school. #UoNTeach
@EliseThomsen1 This is a great initiative. On my last practicum, I was lucky enough to meet a mother who was teaching her daughter Aboriginal art. I was lucky enough to see some of the year 2 students' art and it was beautiful. I can see how this would be successful.
Twitter has taught me something about myself and for that I am grateful. Books are amazing!! They can answer questions, starting conversations, get people thinking, and create pathways of escape and wonder. #UoNTeach
Support lessons with a quality book. https://t.co/ybejFbj5Hp
When I coloured the world by Ahmadreza Ahmadi https://t.co/5TyHaGTUkv
A short book that gets straight to the point and can be used across a multitude of topics or integrate and develop a deeper connection.
If you coloured the world what would you change? #UoNTeach#belonging
I'm sure I would learn as much as the students about our native vegetation, great find @_tomhogan. What a great way to develop students' sense of understanding of their country, their #belonging to it, and how to care for it. #UoNTeach
An eye-opening video highlighting how little Australians know about their own native foods. Tucker Bush aims to educate and reconnect Australians with their own land's unique flavours. I would love to see this in the classroom! #UoNTeach https://t.co/pE8xr6eoLd
@CaitlinSims19 This sounds like a call for integrated curriculums. There should no longer be a sole focus on the 3 R's that guide majority of curriculums, these need to be incorporated into lessons to support students' knowledge and ability to become contributing global citizens.#UoNTeach
@c3274546 My girls enjoy watching this on tv. Great thinking Google incorporating it into an activity to engage students with their world and learn skills. Great find @c3274546
@samanthayhall I think HRE is a topic worth both the teachers and students time. I feel it is a topic you can't teach without all the facts like many delicate topics. For this topic to be supported and taught with value teachers need education and support around its teachings. #UoNTeach
This could be a useful resource for any of my uni friends doing sustainability, diversity, food security, geography, #belonging, or any other topic that includes the world .... so basically everything. @UoNTeach #projectgoals

@CaitlinSims19@CaitlinSims19 totally agree that sustainability through human impact both positive and negative is visible in this book. Great conversation starter with students potentially around how they can change the impact they see. #UoNTeach
